Hey guys i had a question about combat sites that i have got a few different answers on. I am fairly new to the game been playing about a month and i have been doing a lot of combat sites in high sec. One time i got a "DED" site lvl 4-10 this was the first time ever this has happened. I was wondering if the DED sites are random spawns or do you have to do a certain amount of sites for a DED to spawn. I have heard that its random also from others that you have to do alot of sites before it will spawn. I have done about 15-20 sites in the past day and i have got nothing. Does anyone know if its completely random ? or Vice Versa

Sites are semi-random. There are some non-random things, like only a certain number can be spawned in a constellation (cluster? region? one of those things!) at any given time, and lower security systems spawn higher level sites. I'm pretty sure that when a site is cleared it immediately respawns somewhere else nearby as the same type/level of site as well. You may not see a whole lot of 4/10s around though, since they are more rare than the smaller sites and people also actively hunt for those specifically for the profitable items they can drop.

Are you talking about combat anomalies (where you can warp to the site directly from the probe window), or combat signatures (where you have to use probes to uncover the warp link)?

It sounds like you are talking about anomalies - in which case the site has a small chance of generating an escalation (a link to another combat site that may be more rewarding).

DED combat sites are normally combat signatures. DED 3 & DED 4 are found in High Sec. Harder and more valuable DED sites will be found in Low Sec and Null Sec.

DED sites have a random chance of dropping valuable faction modules which makes the sites highly sought & hard to find. If you are in high traffic areas you have a good chance that someone will jump into the site with you and try to race you to the prize. Try not to let this bother you and don't get mad and shoot at them (Concord will destroy you for aggressive action). Consider it fair competition and an indication that you need to get faster at running the sites. Although many players will choose not to try to steal a site from someone.

A key thing to realize about exploration is: "Random is Random". You will have bountiful streaks and dry streaks.

If you find a new type of site you can google the name for hints on how to run it.

To find more DED combat sites :

Scan more systems by extending your route. Scan it at different time zones. Also more Exploration sites can be found in systems with low amount of population, low amount of jumps, low amount of NPC kills, etc. Check Star Map stats for info on systems.

Anomalies escalating to DED sites are random, nobody really knows the percentage. Also if a Faction Commander NPC spawns at the Anomaly that's considered another aspect of the site escalating.

For example :

Angel Hideaway and Angel Burrow Cosmic Anomalies don't escalate to DED 1/10 and DED 2/10 sites like they're supposed to do. However they do have a high chance of spawning Faction Commander NPCs which have a smaller chance of dropping Faction loot.

Angel Refuge, Angel Den and Angel Yard all have a small chance to escalate to DED 5/10. Course each one of those Cosmic Anomalies should actually escalate to it's DED site equivalent, meaning DED 3/10, DED 4/10 and DED 5/10.

Unfortunately they don't so to actually get an Angel DED 1/10 to 4/10 site you have to probe scan for Cosmic Signatures. The other Pirate Factions also have the same issue, different Cosmic Anomalies will escalate to the same DED site.
