Fighters still attacking after Carrier death

I hopped on earlier in my Hel and decided to go fight another carrier and when I lost the fight my fighters kept fighting and I was not able to dock. The damage decreased each time it hit the other carrier, the other carrier destroyed the fighters and I was able to dock again. Not sure why it happened.
