Actually, the career missions are still available, just not forced on you. Read that link from EVE University, and then in-game, open the Agent Finder and look for Career Agents.

As far as scams, here's a list of the most popular ones, so you can get an idea and avoid them in the future.

There are many ways to make money. In general, you have:

- Slow and Steady methods: mining, agent missions, exploration sites, Faction Warfare, courier jobs, planetary industry, etc.
- Proportional methods: trading, manufacturing - the more money and time you invest, the more you can make.
- Do You Feel Lucky methods: scamming, suicide-ganking fat transports, corporation theft, piracy.
- RL Cash methods: PLEX, Aurum

By far, the laziest method is PLEX, which you said you would never do again. Personally I pay subscription for "2" accounts, which are actually just one account and one PLEX per month. It's sufficient.

For joining corps, the legitimate ones will expect you to move your **** yourself, they aren't going to do it for you. Figure out how to get to their wormhole with all your stuff, basically as a test to see if you're even able to play this game properly. There are many bad corps, and few good ones, so do your homework and put in the effort to find them.

I don't think players are allowed to talk other players into buying PLEX and then steal it. If you had filed a ticket back then you might have gotten your stuff back and the guy who scammed you probably would have been banned. This is kind of a grey area though as far as I know.

The career agents (starter missions) are still there, you just have to google where they live and fly there. As for ISK making, the most important factor is your mental endurance. Many people burn out doing X or Y for months on end and never get to the fun parts. If I were you, I'd try exploration. It's less boring than other professions and requires relatively little investment.

First rule of EVE UI: right click EVERYTHING.

Last year I started playing for the first time and within a few days I was lucky (or so I thought at the time) to meet a person who suggested I join his corp. I am not sure if I am allowed to mention his name, but if you are interested it was (snip)

Long story short he convinced me to buy PLEX & buy a bunch of ships including a very expensive Tengu which I could not fly yet but assured me I would need in a Wormhole that his corp owned. I spent quite a number of cash, for me at least, on the PLEX. He told me to contract it to a character that I now realize must have been an alt. I should not have to explain how that went, but I ended up losing everything to this person and I quit playing.

Dangit. Stupid forums losing my post again.

Ok, Rewriting because it is important. Would normally walk away.

CCP does not tolerate scams that involve RL action. Ergo, scamming a player to buy a plex, then stealing the plex or the isk from that plex is NOT ACCEPTABLE. All scams must take place entirely within the EVE universe to be within the EULA.

Go edit the player's name out of the OP. Posting their name doesn't help you. Then submit a ticket. It is old, but CCP probably still has records on it and they will research it, it will take a while, maybe weeks, but they will take some action. Maybe even return your plex and penalize the other, although they will never tell you what action they took.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

He did not hold a gun to my head, and in the end I am the person solely responsible for my actions. As much as I dislike the guy he just took advantage of a very gullible person and I paid the price for my naivety.

All I can do is start again and not avoid making the same mistakes. I am still interested in blowing up ships, exploring the EVE galaxy and making friends. I will just do it without using RL cash to make it happen.

Yea, but in this case he broke the rules and his actions led to you quitting the game for a year. It's one thing when someone quits because of the game mechanics or policies. Then that means the game just isn't for them. But when someone breaks the rules and drives away a player, that is not something we appreciate.

Also, don't think of this as just being about you. That player probably preyed on other newbies, or maybe still does. Like I said, putting in a petition might not get you your stuff back, or it might, but it will at least get CCP to look closely at a player that has been disrupting other player's games.

It sounds like you have a good attitude, taking responsibility for your own mistakes will carry you far, not just in the game but the other players will very much appreciate that attitude.

If you doubt you are getting good advice in game rookie or elsewhere, or just want to ask an honest question, please feel free to post in this forum. This one forum in eve has a no-troll policy so it is newbie safe. If someone gives you bad advice, the regulars will come on and clarify rather quickly. Be aware that posting the same questions in General Discussions or any other forum might well result in a significant number of trolls and hijacks.
