I still don't understand why carriers have such huge lock and control range, yet the inability to truly take advantage of such ranges in any real kind of situation..................

I too have been wondering the same - but have currently concluded that they have been particularly concerned about making them extremely over-powered.

Firstly - these 'new' weapon systems are the first that can be used at anything over the 250km, or so, range bracket (I believe I'm right in thinking that nothing else can really go any further than that (some Citadel weapons up to 300km?))

Secondly - that they are also miniature ships (and I'm thinking Valkyrie) and have ship-like speed ranges although their base speeds are relatively fast when it comes to Cruisers and Frigates.

That said - when they are told to either go to a target that's over 150km away; or return to the Carrier from further than that - other ships can warp; why not them?

With the range issue - they don't necessarily have to be considered as able to return - given that they are possibly considered like 'ammo'

Don't soil your panties, you guys made a good point, we'll look at the numbers again. - CCP Ytterbium

Yes they are "more like ammo" with a major difference being price tag. While I like that they are more disposable than before, the cost is still a lot higher than most ammo out there. Being that faction Crystals for XL guns might be around the same price?

The big issue to me is in a dread or Titan if it is in lock range you can start doing dmg in a relatively short amount of time, basically just after locking your target. Where fighters and bombers have to move there then get persistent attacking. While that is a trade off for the persistent nature of the dmg, it also means they can be destroyed. I understand this balance issue, but at very long ranges, there needs to be an option to get the fighters/bombers into some kind of range that makes sense and doesn't require an obscene amount of time to do.

Even if it follows current mechanics like letting fighters warp to a fleet member, thus a current legal tactic that would be used by any other similar small ship (ie. frigates warping to assist tackle).

Really would love a CCP comment of either working as intended... or looking into this. If this is what is intended, then let us know so we can rebel, if not then let us know so Jita doesn't have to suffer.
