Since work is ongoing on citadel modules and industry features such as reactions are not yet released....

Can we PLEASE get the ability to compress gas ?

We are able to compress ore and Ice, I think it's time for us to be able to compress a "gas".

Thank you.

you use a reaction array, it makes it smaller.

at the moment we cant compress gas but by doing gas reactions you recevie product that weight way less than raw gas

Fully know that, but it's not my point.

T3s in this case.

I will say I've always found it kind of funny that we can compress solids (something that isn't really possible), but can't compress gasses (something that is completely possible)

I've wondered that myself.

When Gasses begin having a use beyond T3 construction, I can see it happening. Generally though we don't want them compressed as we want the manufacturing to be done in Wspace, not jump freightered from Jita to a lowsec gas farm (it happens now I know, it'll just make it easier).

Yaay!!!!

Compressing solids is possible.

1. You can put 1 really big boulder in a dump truck. Break that boulder into sand size pieces and the dump truck goes from full to a layer of sand on it's bottom. Simply smashing the big rock into little rocks compresses the solid by removing all that wasted air space in the corners of the dump truck. OK packaging magic, but that's what we're really talking about.
2. The paving machine puts out 5 inches of hot gooey blacktop. Stanly "the steam roller operator" drives over it and smashes it down to 3 inches. This compression goes on every day in some part of the world.
3. Bricks. Yeah bricks. If I stack bricks neatly they take far less space than if dumped randomly.

SO... If you're driving down the highway and see a truck with a pallet of bricks going down the road beside you... you're literally witnessing 3 forms of solid compression at once (assuming the road is paved vice concrete slab - which is a more efficient compression of solids than pavement, but takes deeper discussion).

Compressing gas (further) is not possible.

Gas can't be compressed any further. When the gas harvester pulls the gas in it already compresses it. If you look not so closely when gassing you'll notice a really big cloud next to your really small ship. You're ship doesn't get any bigger as you harvest gas, so it's reasonable to conclude that the gas is compressed as it enters your hold. Let's have a little faith in EVE engineers. It's reasonable to conclude that the harvesters, when compressing the gas, already go to the maximum pressure allowed. I don't know if the limiting max pressure is your ships hull, the silo you react it in, or what, but it's already at max pressure.

Sure sure, EVE gas is measured in m3 which is as awkward as taking your little sister to the prom, but then again, that's the quantity of interest.

I hope this clears things up a bit Big smile

Everything you just described is about removing gas from between solids, not actually compressing the solid itself. Neither solids not liquids can be compressed (under normal circumstances, ice being an exception). Gas on the other hand can be compressed up until it becomes a liquid. Maybe the ship can't do it in Eve, but no POS module (or the like) can either? If a rock comes in solid after being vaporized by a mining laser, then I'd imagine a gas that gets sucked in by a vacuum cleaner can be compressed as well Lol

Compression in eve is the act of putting more stuff in a fixed amount of space, which is what I'm talking about.

If you want to bring in real world physics - start w/ how I can warp across solar systems. Phusics me that smartman.

Compressing gas would be bad for business in wh space. If you want to to wh gas reactions in k-space... suck an egg.

I have always thought of compression of ore and ice as more of a concentration task than physical compression, removing the 'impurities' and having a more pure and concentrated product.

I might be wrong though.

I started off by saying it's not really possible. Sorry if you took this to mean in game somehow.

But since we've gotten to this point, mind explaining to me how something can be further compressed (your definition) than it already is when it gets sucked up by a freaking laser?

As for warping across a solar system, try tachyons. Enclose your bubble in a layer of them and move the entire bubble faster than the speed of light.

I don't particularly care about running reactions in kspace either way. My comment was an off the cuff response about something I found ironic.

Guys, guys, guys..

We have citadels now..
We can fit a billion trillion large capital ships into a structure that in no way is big enough to hold the ships, even if melted down...
Don't tell me EVE physics can't compress gas.. pl0x...

Whether we should have Gas compression is a different story.
Personally I see no reason to since reactions are so easy to do.
Give the job to your poor guy in the corp and he will be happy. helping corp and earning isk while doing it. ;)
