Good point.

Opening a gift with the family is important, as is shiny paper and big red bows.

Of course, seeing as this is EVE we are talking about, you'll probably open it up to discover they were scammed and find a single lump of coal in the box instead. Smile

Print it up on a nice certificate with fancy glossy paper at Kinkos. And put that in a box.

Certainly they would. Antiquated business models should die. Not only does the retailer want a cut, but the printer will want a cut, the assembler will want a cut, and everyone along the distribution chain will want a cut. All to create inefficiency and waste, burn fuel, and kill trees. Oh and pay for a new tire on the retail chain CEO's new sports car and pay a few hours salary for some rude minimum wage slave with delusions of grandeur.

Well an ETC is 34.95 and is 60 days of game time.

Normal subscription rate is 14.95 per 30 days. You pay an extra 5 bucks for the ETC. Did they add that extra 5 so the retailers could get some cheddar too, or is it to keep CCP in beer and ......?

Then again, I suppose you could also look at it as being a surcharge for buying ISK with real money. Buy an ETC, convert it into a couple of PLEX's and then sell those on the market for ISK.

That is all...

Seriously, I have always wondered why CCP hasn't sold physical cards for game time at stores, I always check now and then, but so far nothing. Would love to hear a Dev weigh in on this oversight.

Probably because the stores would demand a big cut. CCP isn't a big company like Micro$oft or fakebook, and can't push retailers around.
Certainly the larger retailers would try and squeeze CCP for every last whatever a fraction of a kronor is.

Online retailers don't "demand a cut?". Or do BC and SC and the others sell GTCs on their sites simply for the warm feeling they get knowing they brought another pilot 2 months of game time?

I consider myself technologically savvy, but I'm still about 50/50 online vs b&m purchases. Non-tech people don't really 'get' the concept of digital codes and purchasing time. However, Amazon has the concept of the digital Gift Card down pat. A non-player portal for printing a gift-able GTC would be a great alternative to in-store cards.

I'm not rendering them unemployed. Technology is encouraging them to seek more efficient jobs because their current ones are obsolete. The money that used to go to them now goes to CCP to be spent on other things, or to the customer (as a discount) to be spent on other things. But since when have we been rich enough to employ people just for the sake of employing them because, you know, poor them?

I remember reading some articles from the 50s or 60s in which people were contemplating life in the not-so-distant future. One of the ideas was that with automation, heavy machinery, computers, robots, and general efficiencies, the common laborer's work week would be reduced to a few hours a day and that everyone's basic needs would be easily and inexpensively met. According to them, such advances would lead to the leisure class being expanded to include everyone, which in turn would result in a great flourishing of the arts, sciences, and entertainment.

Doesn't look like things are going to work out like that.

No things are not, so long as that rich guy keeps thinking he needs another 500 billion RL moneys, i Truly think that the mega rich in RL have some kinda hording disease with money, i mean the only time they spend money is when it makes them MORE money, after you get 10 or 20 billion you should really start looking to build RL warp drive and ****, i mean your big piles of money do nothing for you if everyone dies because we are planet bound and some disaster wipes out the planet.

All automated intel should be removed from the game including Instant local/jumps/kills/cynos for all systems/regions.Eve should report nothing like this to the client/3rd party software.Intel should not be force fed to players. Player skill and iniative should be the sources of intel.
