Reasons of torture

As for Nauplius, let us assume - for the sake of argument - that what you report as a message from Dauhagin is not some more of your twisted propaganda, but something he actually communicated. It is well known that people tortured and imprisoned beyond our comprehension may take on the beliefs and worldview of their oppressors. At the very least, it sometimes moderates the brutality by saying what their captor wants to hear. At the worst, torture and mind-destroying drugs will change the subject into something unrecognisable.

So, is this the reason why Caldari are being tortured by such inhuman methods in your prisons in Black Rise?

I'd prefer you to stop doing this, because I don't agree with your claim. I don't think that peoples that you torture will accept your beliefs and worldview. I am not going to show you in this conversation faults in your worldview, but I'd like to ask you the question: how many of these people, whom gallente torture, actually have accepted your worldview?

There are thousands of Caldari imprisoned and tortured daily by starvation and constant beating. Can you provide numbers of your "converts"? Or maybe request them from the Federation Navy?

I am asking this because I have personally dealt with peoples, saved from the gallente torturers. Nobody of them, absolutely no one was praising either chaos or democracy, nobody wanted to live in Federation. Most of them wanted just to go home...

Some of them, especially of Civire origin, have behaved quite opposite, they wanted to return to the war and even to "kill all the gallente". I tried to convince them that only those, who are personally guilty (e.g. in being occupants) shall be slaughtered, but they didn't want to hear anything. Where would they go now? To Dragonaurs? Are you happy with this, knowing that you are making people who want to slaughter you indiscriminately disregarding if you did something wrong or didn't?

Or maybe this approach works only on cattle like minmatars? Would Mr. Nauplius like to bring his statistics of converts, since he is known to torture minmatars like gallenteans torture Caldari?

Ms. Kim,

I hope you will accept my expertise on the subject. My former House was built on the slave trade and I have decades of experience in converting POWs into proper citizens.

At the end of the day, the origin or race of the subject has little to do with how they take to "re-education." I've seen it work quite well on all people, including Caldari.

Sometimes it doesn't work. This is for a variety of reasons. Resistance to "re-education" is not specific to different races either.

(As an aside, people who think of themselves at having some kind of inherent immunity, people who say "I will never be changed," people like you, are the easiest to re-educate.)

The use of torture in the process can be effective, but it is a very time-consuming process and as you've pointed out, it can have an opposite effect. Frankly, I find it barbaric.

Instead of torture, I prefer technology. The use of TCMCs (properly applied), can re-educate the "client" with no negative side-effects. The success rate is fairly close to 100%. This is much more cost-effective and simply the best way to get credible intel from a POW.

So it would seem that the Federation, according to your allegations, is using very out-dated techniques. Sloppy work produces sloppy outcomes. This could be to try to get a reaction out of people in the State like you, but it's probably because the old methods don't require the level of expertise that TCMCs require.

You should stop by our offices some time. I could introduce you to a few our our "clients" and show you the process in greater detail. I know slavery per se is illegal in the State, but for a very reasonable price, I could outfit you with a few "individuals" who will be exceptionally loyal to you and the State.

Keep in mind As I've pointed out in the past, both the State and Federation are abiding by CONCORD treaties and articles of war...publicly. In the dark areas, both sides are engaging in actions like this. Truth and innocence are the first casualties in any war. Your complaint against the Federation will always fall on deaf ears because frankly, no one cares. The State is just as willing and able to commit atrocities and does so with the same gleeful abandon as any other government in this galaxy. There is no moral high ground here. You are just as complicit in the atrocities of your government as I was in mine.

Fly safe!

Mr. Mokk, unfortunately I am not going to wish you to fly safe as I consider your reply a distasteful attempt at spreading lies and disinformation about me.
Sinjin Mokk wrote:

You speak about me like you know me, but you know nothing, Sinjin Mokk.
For example, before I became a capsuleer I considered gallenteans nice people and wanted to fight shoulder to shoulder with them against disgusting guristas.
Then at one point I wanted to just kill them all everywhere.
Now I consider it just a stupid waste of resources and only those, who are guilty in defending the Federation or in occupying Caldari lands should be exterminated.

---

Now, lets look at your other ideas. Please excuse me in advance that I will look from above at your inferiority caused by your comment about my person and will consider your point of view from this position.

I myself never really tried to convert hostile PoWs to anything, since I believe that their convictions is not my business. My business is to either transport them to the entity that will take care about them, or to provide them with fair trial and execute sentence in accordance with current codes.

Also I have to categorically disagree with your point of view that race doesn't affect re-educational ability. That may be true in your case with your TCMCs, but if we take into account "normal" re-education, you should learn that people of different races learn and accept information differently, because their brains work different way, they have different chemistry. Races can be distinguished by surface differences, but their inner differences are even greater. Though I don't want to waste my time on you to read you lecture on biology and genetics here, and can recommend you just to buy a book. Or in the worst case just start a new discussion here so everyone around could educate you.

As for your TCMC and "Re-educating", don't they replace parts of brain? I am not sure how these things work, but what you do is akin to Sansha technology of cybernetically modifying brains. Maybe not to his extent, but your desire to do similar thing makes you scum like Kuvakei.

Your point of view that Federation would commit these tortures to "get a reaction" I find rather imbecilic. You see, they have started the war with us and our reaction is to fight back. What reaction can be stronger than going out to kill them, eh?

And even if we didn't have laws prohibiting us from buying and using slaves, I will have to decline your foolish proposition to offer me your "loyal" "individuals" with disrespect. Just think about it. If you will easily make them to follow me without even understanding what I am doing and more importantly, why I am doing this, how I can trust them? If you make them so easily to be loyal to me, where are guarantees that you or someone else won't make them to betray me with similar ease?

---

And the most important part, you have dared to claim that we, Caldari, commit atrocities just like Federal swines. Unlike you I was always pointing out what exactly atrocities gallenteans were committing, but your words are just a bare lie, unless you will BRING OUT WHICH EXACT atrocities we do commit.

If you can't bring that, then be so kind and keep your mouth shut to not make you look more fool than you are.

As I have started with, I am not going to wish you to fly safe. Instead, I hope you will find your untimely end next time you undock.

With disgust,
D. Kim, Strike Cmdr.

Torture doesn't even work that well.

You have to do it in a very specific way to not get false intel.

Torture works wonderfully well, if your goal is merely to inflict suffering. The knowledge that one can inflict suffering is a great deterrent for opposition. Fear, as they say, is the mind-killer; it dilutes the will to fight in the first place. Abhorrent? Yes. Inhumane? Absolutely! But effective? Quite. Not that I would know from experience, but I am sure a can of worms can be opened by raising this topic—and that's disregarding the deviant proclivities of those who frequent these channels.

If I hate someone enough to want to inflict such suffering, I usually will at least have the self control to give them an honorable and quick death.

Only a savage man doesn't show respect to those he destroys. The respect isn't for them, it's for you.

If we are to make a practical argument for this modern honor,

True fear is knowing what that person is capable of doing to you, and watching him choose not to do it. For now.

If you can put your enemy in that captive state of mind, they will be as putty in your hands.

That we "DO", not we "DID". Can you ever distinguish tenses or do you live in the past? I thought you could be smart or educated man, but seems like you have finally destroyed that reputation of yours.

Nouvelle Rouvenor was destroyed 200... TWO HUNDRED years ago, Mokk. Maybe you do know someone living from that past to call them for responsibility, or you'd like to stomp on graves with foam at your mouth? Isn't that's what you are doing now?

Also it wasn't destroyed by official State (or more like Caldari, since the State was only forming at that time) forces, but by a couple of desperate people.

You know what is more interesting, I am not even sure that destruction of Nouvelle Rouvenor should be considered as an atrocity. I am not going to explain it here, since slow-witted rabble like you won't understand it anyway. But for others readers I give a promise I'll write my thoughts about it in a new discussion when I'll have time for this.

As for you, Mokk, just keep your mouth shut next time and don't humiliate yourself further.

The pain is more annoyance than suffering. Making others suffer from pain is barbaric and inefficient.

If I'd want to make someone suffer, I'd destroy everybody they love and everything they create. In fact, I do want to make some people suffer that way and Im working on it. One of them is... Sansha Kuvakei.

Atrocities that you do commit? Currently?

Does allowing you access to a public forum count?

Then there's those dead Guristas civilians from a few weeks ago. Yes, they were sloppy, yes they had guards, but yes, the non-combatants were killed right alongside the warships. No attempt at arrest. The State acted as judge, jury and executioner.

Then there's the time you drove a sword through the wife of a fellow officer because you thought she was a spy. Again, no arrest, no trial. Luckily she had a clone, which you then arrested (because murder wasn't working for you). Both officers retired from service to the State following this incident. Nicely done there ( a transcript is available for anyone who would like to hear hear Ms. Kim's confession).

So we see here a pattern where you and other State military engage in war without quarter. But when the Gallente mistreat some of your people, all you can do is whine about it? And of course, anyone who proffers an opposing viewpoint to your own is "stupid" or "a liar."

You forget Kim-bakka, I'm a retired State Protectorate pilot myself. I flew when Heth was in charge and we fought with honor. You exemplify all that is wrong and without honor in the State currently. So keep in mind that the next time the State decides a person or or group is in the way of progress and needs to be shot on sight, that person could be you.

Would you care to comment on why a branch of the State is still currently looking for Heth?

Do you know what does the word "Gurista" mean?

Did I mistreat any of them? What do you expect from me, offer them a cup of Kresh tea and expect them to have honor to drink it? I am not torturing peoples or commit atrocities. I kill those, who are fighting against our State. I carry the gun, but I also carry a target on my back. I am a soldier and I will gladly accept my death by any way I did kill any of my enemies. Oh my God...

That's it, isn't it?

Something happened. Some Gallente did something bad to you. They hurt you. The trauma of the event changed you. It made you want to lash out. It left a hole in you and the only thing that you can fill it with is hate.

I know this is gonna be tough for you Diana, but you have to reach out. You have to touch base with someone. You have to talk about this. I had a lot of bad stuff happen to me when I was younger and I carried that hate around for a long time before I was able to get past it. Talking to some people who'd had similar stuff happen helped a lot. If you don't, it's going to eat you alive from the inside.

I mean look, you've been storming through these forums like it's a battlefield. You're not conversing, you're dueling with everyone. But we're not the people that hurt you. Maybe, just maybe, someone here could be the one who can help you get back what you lost. Maybe someone here, a Caldari, can work on getting you, the real you, back. Trauma is a part of our lives, but it doesn't have to be the totality of it. Please...reach out. Get some healing, get some closure.

I've seen a lot of pilots go completely loopy because they wouldn't reach out for help. I knew this one pilot, used to be a pretty cool local trader. Now he's a monster, a Bloodraider. I don't think we can get him back. But maybe someone here can help you?

Well...I'm here. I don't think you'd wanna talk to me, but I'll take the step forward. I won't even talk, I'll just listen. But you're not alone in this galaxy Diana. You don't have to be.

You're not exactly a paragon trusted by all yourself, Commander Kim. Its telling that you've spent as long as you have in the ranks of a Corporation run by baseline State bureaucrats. When was the last time you were welcome in a Corporation run by your fellow Capsuleers? Wolfsbrigade was a long time ago.

Maybe reaching out to someone is something you should consider. The most important ship is friendship, after all.
