Why does the new client intergrate with DoubleClick?

I noticed that the brand new launcher intergrates with DoubleClick (an advert network).

Does this mean there is now adware on EVE's launcher? I have blocked DoubleClick.

Would be curious to know why DoubleClick is now part of the launcher.

From what I understand this comes from the banner ads - I´m still trying to get some clear answers and not just ignoring this question.

Now i'm pretty annoyed by the situation. You can only run the launcher now if you enable adverts from doubleclick. I'm going to be unsubscribing as I feel we should not be paying for doubleclick to be embedded into the launcher.

Very disappointing guys! Hopefully this can be fixed in the future.

Blocking ads shouldn't affect the launcher functionality, or at least it wasn't designed that way. I'll look into this and see if there's some edge case, or side effect that occurs when doubleclick is blocked.

It would also be helpful to know how you're blocking doubleclick and how it affects the launcher for you. Please paste the log to codepad or other relevant website.

Thanks.

How about CCP removes doubleclick ads from eve instead.

Forcing doubleclick or 3rd party advertisements down people's throats in a subscription game is terrible.

We are not serving 3rd party DoubleClick ads to players. All our banners are created in-house. We however, as so many others, track our traffic with Google, and DoubleClick is a Google product.

I'm also having this problem. at first I thought my launcher install was borked so I uninstalled it, downloaded a fresh copy from here and reinstalled it but as soon as I try to open the launcher I get an annoying certificate error relating to a DoubleClick server, all of which are blocked on my network via OpenDNS' control panel with just a single entry for the parent domain "doubleclick.net".

Until last a couple of days ago I could just click the ignore button on the prompt that popped up and the launcher would still open allowing me to continue as normal, but now it doesn't even get as far as showing the main launcher screen.

There is no reason for the launcher to have this DoubleClick crap being blocked, result in a total failure to work.

I've pasted my logfile contents here: http://hastebin.com/kivimiwoni.rb

It's gotten worse since the latest update, it seems CCP has introduced another ad provider into the mix. ccpgames.engine.adglare.net

Geniunely concerned that CCP is now bundling in adverts from multiple providers now.

Could you explain why ccpgames.engine.adglare.net is being used as well as Double Click? Seems strange that CCP is embedding a script with the words "ad" within the domain name.

Why do you need to use multiple known providers that track users? I don't see other companies using this methodology on the launcher.

I have also placed a ticket. I have adblock on my router for whole home blocking and I do not think I should have to turn that off just so a banner ad can run on a launcher for a game that is a subscription. Are not subscriptions suppose to remove banner ads? As of right now, I get two cert error pop-ups when I run the launcher. Even if i click ignore, the launcher will not run. The only way I was able to get it to work was to route through my vpn. This is far from acceptable.

Ok, so I am unable to load the launcher and it just keeps telling me the certificate doesnt match the server. After doing some searching around I stumbled onto this post. Is this something that is going to be fixed or should I simply unsub and move on to something else? I don't appreciate not being able to play simply due to the way you are tracking your clients.

It has taken me a couple of days to find a solution/work around but this has thus far resolved my issue. I'm using Win 10 so I'm not sure if this will work on any other platform.

Windows key + X key
Command Prompt (Admin)** <----Make sure you click the correct one.**
Shift + right click on program (e.g. Eve Launcher icon on desktop)
Copy as path
Paste in Command Prompt
Hit Enter

After you do this, your launcher should start. Hope this helps.

You are probably one of those people who blame Windows when their computer gets infected with viruses/malware.

This is escalating the eve launcher permissions to admin, you should never need to do this nor should.

I'm not blaming anyone for anything, just offering something that worked for me. No, I shouldnt need to do this but ccp has not released any way to get around the problem and this does. If you prefer to insult me that is your prerogative but your insults dont solve problems and RunAsAdmin does so until you can offer a better solution please sit down and stfu while the grownups talk...

We recently removed GTM and subsequently Double click from the launcher. AdGlare is being used for in-house promotions only. We are in the process of setting up a more permanent solution to replace ccpgames.adglare.
