Help Mastering D-Scan

I've had a fascination with directional scan since starting exploration and keep hearing the phrase "finding a warp in" used in connection with d-scan.

How can I get better at d-scan where I can scan down a ship? I have tried, as practice, to scan down an alt but never seem to be able to find a warp in on it...

I know this is a difficult topic to just say "do this" and I'm not really looking for that. I just want to know if it's possible to find a warp in on a ship and, if so, what are some ways I can improve?

Thanks for help on his odd topic.

You use D scan to find roughly where in space the ship is. you can warp to the celestial and land on grid with them but the range would always been an unknown.

I was under the impression that getting a 'warp in' on the ship means either combat probing or sending a covert cloak in first to find out exactly where the ship is and using a bookmark or just the covert ops slow boating close to the enemy ship as a warp in.

So you use the D scan to find a rough location and then send in the scout or combat probe them down.

But i am getting old now so maybe you whipper snappers have got new terms for things i don't understand P

dscan allows you to figure out if a ship is at a celestial or another warpable object such as a fw beacon, an anomaly or a cyno.

Just point your view at a celestial on the overview (with new camera it's hold 'c' and click), and do a 5 degree scan.

Then you can warp to the celestial. Ship can be there, on grid, at any range. Or could not be there cuz it's just close by but in a safespot offgrid.

The only way to warp in on a ship that is not at a warpable object is to use combat probes. Scan the ship and warp to it directly. In this case you will land exactly on it. unless it's moving, in whch case you'll land wher the ship was when you probed it.

Thank you both so much for the feedback... so I am not as crazy as I thought.

I had heard that you could only find them using combat scanners - makes total sense but I had also heard that d-scan was used in a similar fashion. Glad to know that isn't the case.

Many thanks!
