Students protest at Project Discovery. Conspiracy suspected !

News reaches Gutter Press from Caille State University (Not to be confused with the University of Caille), that biology students are protesting at having been drafted into participating in the Sisters of Eve's "Project Discovery", a biological research project that involves study of cell samples.

The students claim that they are being exploited by their professors into participating, with the proceeds from each sample going to a university slush fund, for the academic staff to spend on luxuries.

Coercion !

Some students have taken to extreme forms of protest, with one group having painted the names of several cellular structures in 2 metre tall letters in green paint across several Biological Science Department buildings.

Cytoplasm !

"We look at these cell samples, and classify the features. Someone gets paid by the SoE to do this, but it sure isn't us", said one student.
"We don't even know what this 'Project Discovery' is for ! For all we know it's a biological weapon research program!", said another student.
"I heard the university professors spend the money on swimming pools and fancy clothes and exotic dancers", said a third biology student.
"What balderdash. There is no slush fund", said a suspiciously well-dressed professor. "Totes", added her exotic dancer companion.

Controversy !

Project Discovery is also at the centre of several conspiracy claims amongst capsuleers, who are some of the major participants in the research project.

Some claim that the project is intended to create a genetically engineered human that would be able to interface and operate the strange technologies used by the so-called "Drifter" organisation of cyborgs.

Others claim that Project Discovery is a weapon for use by the SoE against the capsuleer class itself !

Conspiracy !

"I bet they're reverse-engineering Drifter tech, and need a brain in a jar to work it", said one Caldari captain
"It's a brain bomb, designed to kill capsuleers, I'm sure of it. Won't stop me from profiting from it in the meantime though", said a Gallente captain.
"It's a masterpiece of social engineering, is what it is. See, the SoE don't like capsuleers, since, well, you know, all that shooting stuff and exploding stuff that we do. By releasing this Project Discovery thing, then, a lot of capsuleers are staying docked to classify the samples, and not undocking and killing people. It's a masterpiece!", said a wild-haired Amarr captain.
"I bet they need a special brain thing, that has some kind of ability to open the EVE Gate. They believe God lives on the other side, and if they open the Gate then a new age of peace and goodwill for all humanity will occur", said a Minmatar captain.

Complicated !

It seems that Project Discovery is likely to remain controversial for some time !

No matter what it looks like, it's cytoplasm and nucleus. Every time.

'Totes' Science.

The students are right to be suspicious.

A "biological weapon research program?"

Well that brings up some frightening possibilities...

Cytoplasm Is The Powerhouse Of The Cell!

And while I don't entirely trust the Sisters myself, I do a lot of business with them. Say what you want about their motives, but the Sanctuary has done some nice R&D in the field of ship hulls. Quality this high is hard to pass up.

In my recent experience, the Cytoplasm Hegemony has retreated somewhat.

I do hope the Sisters are up to something Nefarious. The construction of a cybernetic superhuman who will put an end to suffering. You know, that sort of thing. Is it alright if I take this? Yes? No? Pity.

Wow, these gallente students are truly idiots. I didn't expect anything else from them, really.

Besides this work that SoE are outsourcing is a simple image pattern match search. Even primitive AI can solve such tasks. Unfortunately, after CONCORD's omega-one-five directive (prohibiting AI usage and development) it isn't possible anymore, so they have to rely on human power or capsuleers, who already work as supercomputers with intelligence. Easiest replacement for AI for such primitive task, right?

If these students were at least iota smarter, they would say thanks to capsuleers for doing such mundane tasks for them that even uneducated lab workers can do. Way slower though...

Honestly? All those people who keep selecting cytoplasm need to stop being lazy 'follow the herd' persons and actually pay attention to the descriptions.

Come on! This is essentially 'wash test tubes' kind of work that is typically given to diploma-holding lab techs. Lab techs who are overqualified for the job even! It's tedious work that requires plentiful careful observation and knowing how to play 'find the similarities/difference' which the three-year-old's in Clan Enclave can do decently. As a game!

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

Actually, CONCORD's regulations against AI only prohibit "smart" AI. The AI we use every day to manage the basic functions of our ships and drones could handle it.

A little trust goes a long way. The less you use, the further you'll go.
