When can we expect to see off-grid links be replaced by on-grid ones?

An alternative solution would be a complete overhaul of fleet boosting mechanics.

1. Erase all specialized link ships. In other words, remove all boosting bonuses and all links restrictions

2. Allow any ship in the game to fit links, rebalance pg/cpu requirements accordingly

3. Remove the 'fleet/wing/squad' booster roles --> everybody with a link mod gives boosts

4a. Allow boosts from every fleet member to stack, rebalance so the resulting max boosts are similar to today. In other words, 10 squad members with +3% speed links each give +30% speed to each squad member

4b. Alternatively, tweak the new mechanics with stacking penalties or 'ceilings' so that having full squads of 10 members does not become mandatory

Positive result: links finally become an interesting mechanic, FCs choose either fits with links or fits with an extra module doing something else, depending on the situation.

Negative result: mass rage from everybody that trained links (though skill extraction could mitigate this)

that's like letting any soldier in the military call commands.
targeted command links are a no as its a Omni signal and to boot your fleet you would need twice the fleet size.
you would see more links used making fleets a lot harder that are using them as more types of links would be used

I can see links being ongrid, but if you give people an inch they will want a mile, you will see people wanting an alt boosting a ganker fleet be gcc, a alt boosting a duel be a target aswell, a WT alt to become a WT, and a suspect being boosted to be suspect aswell....

think carefully for the landslide you ask for

Maybe you wouldn't boost your whole fleet then.

And the fc would have to decide how many link ships to bring, same as deciding how many logi or ewar or tackle.

More choices to make, more interesting gameplay.

Third: Those ships can be bumped out of range (may or not be useful depending on area of effect of the link bonuses, we shall see when time comes) or ganked. I can picture a lot of link ships sitting on gates and stations being ganked by CODE. or Goonies, because they can.

Before I laugh a long time at this comment I'll give you the chance to tell me what kind of ship you're going to use to bump someone +5000 KM.

Like I was implying: We have no idea if on-grid Boosting will be just that, need-to-be on-grid, or if Links will have an area of effect, and if so, what range will they have. If the range is limited enough (a few kilometers) then bumping will be quite an option.

Or maybe on-grid Boosting will act like a (neutral) assistance module, and give a suspect flag. That could make things interesting too.

CCP has never talked of range only having links "on grid" and since grids are massive now your idea is.....

Erm ...

"Defined range aoe links" is probably a better term than "On-grid links". They won't have unlimited range on grid.

Rather than simply be on-grid, I'd like a more structured approach. Keep it so that you can have links active anywhere in the system, but have the link effect become stronger the closer you are to the link ship. IE within 25km = +100%, 100km = +80%, 250km = +50%, etc, and then cap it at something like +25% for somebody bouncing between safes.

More to the point is when will we see off grid remote repping ? cos that needs to be implemented first.
