What would be the moment to move into a lower security area for mining?

I tried mining once too, years ago.

Skip lowsec and join a good 0.0 mining corp.
You don't have to worry about rats, cause they provide a dedicated mining tank.
They will haul the ore and buy it from you. If you are lucky they will afk bonus you in a perma fleet from a rorqual or whatever.

Anyways back in the day.....i only mined arknor, bistot and crockite... I think i pulled something like 40Mill an hour with 2 hulks. Never lost a hulk in 0.0 ever.

Its going to sound like troll advice but don't use the intel channels cause it gives you a false sense of security when the intel channel is quiet and in comes a red vagabond in local and there are 100 blues afk docked in the next system he just came from.

untrue, the best way to mine in lowsec is with a large group of people you trust, yes you can find them in eve.

get into system, strip the place bare as fast as you can, then leave. it works well if you have the balls and the man power to do it. 20 ships should be able to clear out a system before you are noticed.

Other then the rush, there is very little reason to do so. The risks far exceed the profit difference from mining in HS. If your able to get 20 miners together at a time you might as well look for a null alliance or rent a system. Its far more profitably and oddly enough safer.

that only works if you want to get into nul sec politics, and that is something i really dont want to do

With renting you usually don't need to deal with politics. Just pay your rent on time and you really shouldn't have to deal with anything. However I can understand that reasoning. Since 0.0 politics while interesting at times, can also make you want to ram your head into a brick wall.

Mining ore is a sucker's game unless you have max skills on multiple accounts. If ISK-making and mineral acquisition is your goal you will do far better by running missions and reprocessing low meta loot for minerals than just mining in a hulk - let alone a retriever. Reprocessing gives you access to nocxium, zydrine, megacyte and even morphite (from drone loot) - something you can only get at extreme risk to your mining ship in low/null sec. The quantities are more than adequate as well, and any shortfall can simply be bought with the ISK you make from mission rewards/bounties.

Level 4 missions should be your mining goal if you are a solo miner. Of course if you have multiple accounts like me, that changes, and ore once again becomes profitable.

EDIT: The above obviously implies that you can salvage/collect the loot from your missions.
