I emcountered the kindness of strangers the other day in null. I wanted to sell some ore, and it was at 1300isk per in my sov and 1560isk per in a neighbouring sov. I thought 'what the hel', and took my risky ass 2 jumps in to dock up, sell it all, undock and get back home sharp.

There were definitely people in local during my outing, but I never met anyone.

Thank you, unknown non-allied players, for not popping my poorly tanked ship full of ore, stealing my stuff and justifiably laughing at the consequences of my foolish greedy behaviour.

Warms the cockles, don't it?

I nominate OP for "Special Snowflake" of the year award

Civil discourse is uniquely human. After all, when is the last time a pride of lions and a herd of water buffalo negotiated SOV over a watering hole? Never. Someone either gets their ass kicked or eaten. At the end of the day someone holds SOV.

Have to agree with the OP.

Wouldn't hurt to have some 'Tales from the Lightside' be posted in this sub-forum once in a while. I'm sure there's quite a few good helpful 'Pay It Forward' type of stories available. I know some stories but not gonna post em, too many negative minded posters here.

One thing is for sure, nothing subtle about those trolling the hell out of this thread. A couple of replies is understandable but some just take it way too far, like constantly badgering the OP in this thread and worse, seeking out and persecuting the OP in-game.

Crap like that is what gives this game a bad name.

You're right, it wouldn't hurt to see the occasional feel good story. We've all got them, some start with spaceship violence, some start with a newbies wallet flashing at random and all sorts of other scenarios.

But just as in real life, violence and murder sells; CCP cottoned onto that before they even started building the game we all play.

The other factor is that people don't talk about them; if I deposit isk in a newbies wallet, that's between me and the newbie, I don't need nor want to see it posted on the forums to gain the approval of others. A good deed is its own reward.

The OP came across as questioning the RL morality of people because of their in-game actions; whether deliberate or not, it was seen as offensive and peoples responses reflect that.

The forums are part of the game, your actions in-game can have consequences on the forums and vice versa.

As for Eve having a bad name? That's debatable, many mainstream gamers label it as a game full of trolls and griefers because it's so different from what they know, both in terms of how the game is played, and what the rules of the game allow; yet they love to read about it. (Remember, violence and murder sells)

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Jokimg aside, the OP's endeavor is a laudable one, eben if it did detour into 'morality' debates.

It would be nice to read about people being nice to each other. I'm sure te majority of eve players aren't evil bastards all the time.

I daresay even members of CODE must have their moments.

After all, even Stalin had a soft spot for dogs, I hear.

Err...that's exactly what you've done to me, emailing me with nonsense stemming from a forum thread and turning my beautiful name into something offensive and obscene.

Easy to spot the high-minded hypocrites...and not really all that surprising to find that they're wearing their nice and shiny suits of White Knight armour (which on closer inspection appears to be tin foil stolen from the kitchen drawer).

It's kind of a strange dichotomy that exists in this game. On one hand, it is ostensibly a social environment, with a lot of interdependence. Your call for altruism can be seen in that light I suppose. I guess it's theoretically possible to do everything by oneself, but certainly not efficiently.

On the other hand, if you think of this, or any arena in evolutionary terms, selection will arguably favor someone who steals a person's site over someone who is "a nice guy."

It's different because this is a game, and we aren't dealing with biological pressures. Conversely, there exists social pressure in the opposite direction-- a professional killer gets a lot more of certain kinds of recognition than someone who manufactures efficiently and operates in largely a live-and-let live manner, generally.

I'm just thinking out loud here, really. Ultimately, there doesn't have to be any rational reason for why anyone behaves in any particular way in Eve. It is indeed possible and probably a lot of fun to play it Chaotic Neutral, as was mentioned above.

Some sociologist decades ago conjectured about what the Earth would be like if there were no women around, just men. He/she guessed that, without women around to draw their interest away from competing with each other, they'd just be at endless war. With the must immature boy-heroes ::aherm:: competing to get the most attention. Roll

High-minded hypocrite wearing White Knight armor made from kitchen Tin Foil ? As usual you just gotta make things personal again.

By the way, that message was just a friendly little info update, no WarDec or Bounty involved. And yes I agree, your name is indeed offensive and obscene.

When someone else uses force against you it's because they are right, when you use force to get your way it's because you are evil and essentially flawed. Hypocrisy is a pleasure.
