Possible returning player, how's the lag?

I use to play this game like a mad-man for years but the lag in large engagements just spoiled all the fun for me. You know, a game designed around space warfare that lags out when you try and do space warfare gets pretty irritating.

So these days, how is the lag? Please be honest.

Better, but not quite solved yet. They're working on a new anti-lag system called Time Dilation, and they're ironing out the bugs right now. If you're coming back, by the time you're back up to speed, they should have it.

EDIT: For reference, 3-400 man engagements on non-reinforced nodes are generally lag free anymore.

Not sure if you used to play a few years ago but the lag made fleet flights almost unplayable.

Lag in null sec blob fests are meant to be handled by time dilation soon.

It mostly depends on your machine now. If you have one like mine and a bug like mine, then you will be clearing your cache every few hours and have cut everything down to just above safe mode levels.

Old 7300 GT that was lying around because Captain's Quarters burnt up my card. (Scaleo case is the only thing from the original Intel Graphics, with no AGP port or PCI Express, 512MB of RAM, 32 GB of HD, 2.66 GHz Celeron. I got saddled with that lump of rubbish because my gran wanted to run Win 98 and it wouldn't. So, we swopped machines. )

A brand that was renowned as a glorified word processor, was a real gape magnet at LAN parties when I was hosting the games back in 2003. Now ... well ... let us just say that as you get older other bills take higher priority. Cry

Edit: The "bug" is that if I travel a long way, I get memory leaks and my RAM usage just keeps climbing. Also, does EVE even cache anything?

P.S. Using a RAM de-fragmenting program I can combat this or delay it long enough to be in a safe place to clear cache and reload.

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.
