How the local window can stay minimized 90% of the time

The local chat window is something a lot of us primarily use to see who is in local. We rarely use it for chatting.

I propose that we make changes to the overview window so that we can toggle on/off "local players in system". Which means you will see local players on the overview window.

Benefits:
- local chat window can stay minimized 90% of the time.
- more free space on screen
- Players will be encouraged to chat in other chat windows

Alternative:
the sidebar in the local chat window (the one with the long list of players online), that sidebar can be toggled on/off in other chat windows. (ie. When you have the corp chat window open Instead of seeing who is online in corp, you can see who is in local)

But I don't want three hundred people in my overview unless they're actually on grid with me.

Like i mentioned in the OP, i really think we might be wasting a lot of space by having both the "sidebar that shows list of players" be exclusively merged with the actual "chat where you see people speak".

I see potential in dividing these two and not making them exclusively linked. In other words one should be able to swap the sidebars around, that way you can see whats going on in corp chat while same time keeping an eye on "local activities"

Feature exists, put local in a different box to corp chat.

2 Chat stacks, on for local, one for unessential chats?

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Whichever chat window you prefer to have up is fine, some people prefer to devide chat windows into two groups, one for local, the rest are stacked together.

I think ideal would be if most people didnt have to divide the chat window into two groups (for obvious reasons). What im suggesting is to make the chat window double pronged or like a double edged sword

Could save some valuable space on screen is all im saying.

The only version of the "a change to local" I've actually liked was the option to ADD (not replace with ADD) an optional local like list of all the people in local, so you can see JUST a list of names with standings and no chat window...

If you want something different go live in a wormhole as far as i'm concerned

On second thought VR is going to lead to improvements to chatting experience of eve. This could happen anywhere between mid 2016-early 2017 (the way i see it). It depends on whether or not the third party tools they are develping for the oculus/vive will work on mobile VR (phones). Because mobile will be the bigger platform, which means there is no reason for ccp to not create new UI for things like chatting.

Although problem with mobile VR is they have no motion controllers which means you cant interact with anything outside the flat screen box. So it may not work for mobile VR at all in the near future.

Uhm... You can minimize chat window, leaving pretty much only list on screen.

Actually, minimum window size and maximum member panel size leaves room for 2 characters in the chat panel.
