What happened with war decs?

Eve is plagued with A SINGLE WAR MECHANISM in HighSec
Too few choices, too little conflict.
And really, that is what this is all about.
Conflict.

What we need is a multi-level system of conflict. One that enables conflict for a wide range of users.
From a single-engagement or system, to all-out Unconditional War.
A system of choices (and consequences) that empowers both A & B. Put in some possible escalation points too.

It boils down a choice between thinking "why should I fight?', versus 'why wouldn't I fight'

We need to stop thinking WARDEC as a one size fits all approach.

For starters:
Have a character flag that "enables combat" and lets you immediately fight anyone else that has that flag enabled.
Basically a 'I want to PewPew" button!

I will do up a proposal over the week and post it in F&I...

We already have one, it's called "Undock", and it's located to the top-right of your station menu.

The only difference between the 4 modes(*) that then exist in highsec, is what the consequences are for pvp.

* 4 modes being: gank (CONCORD response), wardec (free pvp between involved Alliances/Corps), friendly fire legal (free pvp between corp members), dual (free pvp between 2 players).

ADD a SIMPLE COMBAT mechanic to those already available.

no asking for duels required
no corp required
no friends required
no baiting required
no standings/sec loss
no fees
no worries (except your losses)

Anyone can do it.
Any time they want.

just hit the button and go shoot anyone who did the same.

Except that it would be a crap addition to the game and not necessary at all, because the mechanic already exists.

Stop being a stupid carebear who wants a flag to be able to shoot. If you want to shoot, then go shoot.

Flag proposals are only for people who don't want to be shot at, not for people who want to shoot. For people that want to shoot, the mechanics already provide for it.

It's not about adding more combat to the game. People don't need flags if they want to shoot. They do it already within the existing mechanics.

Flags are to keep others safe, because they don't want to be shot at. Totally, stupid carebear proposal.

Edit. Look at your own proposal where you mentioned flags. It was totally about not needing wardecs if flags are available. It's totally a 'let the pvpers have their pvp and leave everyone else in peace' approach. Screw that. No one is safe in this game, as soon as their ship undocks.

I offer the unconditional combat mode, for those who choose it.
Wherever and whenever they want it.
Simple.

And it DOES NOT change any existing choices.

Aren't you proposing a flag to enable pvp.

No different to a wardec (which is also a flag), or a dual (which is a flag for legal pvp).

All you are doing is suggesting something that allows free pvp between players that want to pvp. Wardecs, duals and freindly fire flags already provide that.

Even if I was in highsec, there's nothing stopping you shooting me except your own fear of consequence.

Aside from which you're proposal would have no impact on, since you'd only shoot me in highsec if I flag myself. So you either need to use existing mechanics, or not shoot. Doesn't add much.

Agreed.

But why should there be multiple consequences for something so fundamental to the game?
And limited options available to everyone?

If more people (like me) did combat, more people would feel prepared to leave Highsec.
And learn to accept losses without fear.

More combat options should NEVER be a bad thing for Eve.
