I was actually a big fan of the gong, I would like to see it come back as an Audio option if that's possible.

If we had options and tick boxes for everything ppl asked to be made optional or controlable we'd have 20 pages of tabs on the esc menu. One of the things ccp have made clear is that they want to reduce options and tick boxes because its just getting too cluttered and easily broken as it is. I swear every thread I see someone says "make it an option."

RIP gong. You were funny while you lasted. o7

On the other hand, for your OWN ship, it would be cool to have atmosphere sounds that progress from (faint) hull breach chatter, to muffled explosions and muffled people screaming (cause ships have crew), to a muffled "all hands abandon ship, all ha-" call that gets cut off as the ship explodes. Or if the ship doesn't explode but warps off while in hull, transition the sounds to calls for "medical" on various decks and eventually fade it out.

Would also be cool to have a fake statistic for the ship crew number, and a fake statistic that appears on killboards for the number of crewmen killed / escaped when the ship was destroyed, similar to the loot drop tally. So we can compare casualties epeen on the killboards.

Thank you for listening to your players and killing the gong!

Now about that time delay on the animation...

You already put in work to make it happen. If work hours need to be so cautiously planned, then you should have asked for the desire to get such an implementation, and then think about if that is really necessary now to deliver something that could have been done much better with more effort and time. Because as it stands, that addition is in it's general idea compared to other more demanding stuff (for the same development group) useless, and in it's original inception sub-par.

The bottom line is, it was not needed, neither was the animation. Because it distorts and delays the flow of the game.

I'm no longer at a point where I believe that CCP can implement a new feature or change a feature properly. So I would much rather see options, to have the ability to avoid the "unnecessary new stuff" or the "broken revamp"

I've been discussing this with some other players and former players. The problem, atleast in my mind is that there are a few problems here with the way features are developed, tested and rolled out to the production server.

A) Not enough players interacting with the test server on a regular basis to test all aspects of potential implemented changes, so there for incoming changes aren't given the proper shake down before live production rollout and they are left with dealing with our reactions.

B) The feedback provided doesn't appear to be taken into consideration (or at the very least acknowldged) during the testing phase of on the test server due to the small sample size or just due to time limitations. There for the player base is less likely to provide feed back if they feel at the end of the day what we say in regards to changes doesn't matter.

There are several examples of this that can be sighted (Icongate, Neocom icon updates, Camera changes) and some changes that you just implement without notification or little time to feed back on (Tab function removal, Watch changes)

Yes, I understand that change requirements may not allow for as much feedback as we'd like, but in certain cases some of these changes are found via a post on reddit from an EVE Event and announcned days before the change goes live.

I've seen some changes that don't seem to really get any form of attention until CCP rolls them out to production and even then has to for a setting to have us Opt Out of the changes. If you look at the camera thread as an example how many people immediately opted out of the camera as soon as CCP made it the default view.

If CCP really values the player feed back at the testing phase on SISI they could do a few things to help drive interest:

1) Provide more updates when we feedback on the the new ideas and features thread so we know that our suggestions are being taken into consideration

2) When we provide feedback via the bug reporting tool have the GM's provide some feed back in a more timely manner or atleast ask for more details if required to help address identified issues. Currently I have 3 tickets across 3 accounts that are open for "Beta" camera related issues still open pending acknowledgement from months ago

3) Ask for more mass tests on incoming changes, make upcoming changes more visibile via the launcher (as I stated above I don't think a high percentage of the player base are actively monitoring the forums weekly, or let alone even come here at all)

We want to help make this game last CCP, because honestly alot of us care about what happens to this game.

If there is no incentive or reinforcement our feedback is being taken seriously except as a reactionary action to a change after a massive thread spawns, what do you expect?

If enough players of the sample size that touch the test server say that the idea maybe needs some rework, or it doesn't mesh with the game, take our feedback, roll the change out for now and rethink it. Don't throw it live on the test server and wait to be bombarded with negative feedback. I'm sure the Gong had more then enough people saying it didn't make sense in the first place, so there for you could have just taken it back to the drawing board and revised your design to make it work with the environment.

This is just the way I'm looking it from an outside perspective. Obviously there is alot that goes on behind the scenes that we don't see and obviously things do fall between the cracks just like any developement cycle.

I thank you for the work you do put into this experience, because with honestly this community despite the vitriol reaction you may receive at the end of day most players have some aspect of this game they enjoy, and in some cases this maybe the experience some put most of their free hours into.

We only want to make this an overall better experience for all players. You need to help us help you.

Crisis averted! You'd have thought the Jita monument was starting to feel nervous or something.

Hell, use the gong sound for when the monument is hit.

Once the players found the option to increase or decrease volume of that sound, I think we were happy. The problem was implementation: you just dropped that one on us out of nowhere. It wasn't discussed in advance on the forums, and the shock and surprise probably killed the enjoyment right out of the gate.

Lesson learned: players do not like surprises.

For note, I actually did like the gong, once I lowered the volume of it. It could definitely be a different sci-fi noise, but even so, I was happy with the basic feature itself. I can't say the same of the animation - that thing is just distracting.

I didn't mind it, but having it bound to the UI interaction sound, just not a great place for it.

If they are going to implement new sounds they should add a control for it as well.

Can you plz consider to remove the flashing animation.

It has the potential of seizure-inducing especially if you are tired out. The frequency and contrast change is just not right.

Like someone mentioned above just do a couple of missions in a darkened room and see for yourself.

Next time you guys change a loud sound without adequate patch notes (which I read regularly, so if this gong sound made it in, it got in after the list of 300 item names that changed, which itself is its own problem), could there be a notification upon log in that the sound settings have changed? I had no idea this was coming, and the first time I heard it I was working a site in a WH solo so needless to say, its scared the (expliciative deleted) out of me. I get "Well we put out patch notes" but obviously it was somewhere that, unless you hang on the test servers, no one saw this coming as it came along side the DC et al. tiericide. Any other changes a player should read about, but a change to the active/passive nature of a DC won't figuratively give me a heart attack.

CCP- Please give the inventor of the gong 1 week off with pay!
Make him or her play eve 5 hours each day starting out as a rookie and doing all tutorial missions.
Make sure the surround sound is turned on and is loud enough to catch their attention.
Make sure they salvage a room with lots of wrecks.
The remaining part of each day should be spent reading the forums and figuering out what type of game eve is.
Thank You!

Hey, friends.

Super quick. We heard you on the new sound effect introduced in yesterday's patch and we're disabling it as of tomorrow's downtime while we take a second look at it's purpose and design.

Thanks for the feedback. And for anyone who really likes the new effect - you have until tomorrow to record it.

Guard, love the visual effect.

If the "gong" sound had a way to lower the volume...that would be good. Let players have it, but control it Blink
