Instantly killed by a player without being targeted?

Yeah, I just got podded while cutting through low sec. I warped to a gate, saw a player in red when I got there on the overview and boom, I was dead in an instant, my pod popped up on screen and was destroyed just as quickly.

As annoyed as I am at losing everything from an extended salvage run... I just wanna know, how was this done?

Thanks. Looks like two different kinds of large explosives. I'll look into them further once I lick my wounds and have a good cry over what I lost... and then rethink how I play. Ugh

2 ways of doing it:

Smartbomb (very unlikely, gate camp alone with smarbombs? lolboulz and mega lolz)

Scan res over 1K it's almost insta lock and "badaboum", paper thin arty canes can do this very well, but not only canes, other ships can do that has well, just look your loss mail.

Go to character sheet, combat, tab losses

If it was your flycatcher in Rancer, it was a Hyperion with Smartbombs that caught you.

On the off chance you're not trolling, this is actually one of the best ways of solo-camping - stabs make it relatively risk-free too.

it can happen to anyone, you can be in a shuttle, interceptor, industrial

Anything with low EHP and offline hardeners is not safe in low sec. After getting podded two times, I became paranoid and never warped to 0 on a gate. Especially on long gates, where you can't get a D-scan.

As a rule of thumb, you must not warp on a gate, unless you can read a D-scan. There might be cloakers, bubbles, log on trap. Worst you can get - land in a bubble, on a container. It will decloak you and block your movement.

I think container bubble is an exploit, but devs don't really tell us.

People learn. But you need to get smartbombed first and over the years you know where and when to warp to zero. That's one major Darwin rule in EVE. Rancer still works. That says it all. The unaware noob never dies and that's good how it is (for the pirate business).

Travel in smartbomb resistant ship when running round Rancer or key lowsec pipes. Preferably something that can withstand 3-5 full cycles of 8x large SBs (omni resists) as minimum. It raises their *business* cost.

They'll usually wait for you at the WTZ exit points at your destination gate, so it's almost a sure hit for at least 1 cycle most times.

I don't. Its working as designed. Without it there would be no way to catch a cloaky.

Try to avoid infamous systems like Rancer or if you can't scout (with a second account). But as I said: Rancer is a proof how the game works since 2003. And it's fine how it is. Tbh: I am surprised, too, that BL3H is still farming good ISK there.
