Question regarding Condor power units, and my fit..

Hello everyone,

This is a basic FW fit for Condor I saw on Reddit:

[Condor, Kiting 101]
Ballistic Control System II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I
Medium Ancillary Shield Booster, Navy Cap Booster 50
Warp Disruptor II
DDO Photometry Tracking Disruptor I, Optimal Range Disruption Script

Upgraded 'Malkuth' Light Missile Launcher, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile
Upgraded 'Malkuth' Light Missile Launcher, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile
Upgraded 'Malkuth' Light Missile Launcher, Caldari Navy Scourge Light Missile
[empty high slot]

Small Ancillary Current Router I
Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Small Auxiliary Thrusters I

When I was trying to equip the Light missile launcers, for some reason it tells me that these require 72 power units to put online, while the condor only has a total of 48 units.

Is that normal? How come the person was able to put on all these if the ship only has 48 units of power?
Btw, I am training power management skill to 5 right now. Will take 4 days and something.

Thank you all for helping!

You are trying to equip rapid light missile launchers, you need regular light missile launchers. They recently changed the names so that is probably why you are getting jammed up. Look for TE-2100 Ample Light Missile Launcher or Arbalest Compact Light Missile Launcher.

Upgraded 'Malkuth' Light Missile Launcher is no longer a weapon that is available but Upgraded 'Malkuth' Rapid Light Missile Launcher is still a thing.

Thank you so much for anwering!

Just wondering, what would be a good choice for intro-level PVP? Like, something that is able to PVP, but not too expensive so that I wont puke blood after losing it.

Also, since Condor is a missile ship, I guess it will do failrly well against rocket frigates, as long as I keep a distance. Am I right?

Thanks!

Rapid Light Missile Launchers are cruiser-sized weapons (designed for cruiser-sized power grids, for use anti-frigates).

If any single item that you're trying to fit requires more power grid than is available total for your ship (73 grid when you only have 48), then that item is too big / designed for a bigger class ship.

Ship classes have orders of magnitude more grid, simply to prevent us from installing oversized weapons and modules. For example, frigates have 30-50, cruisers have 800 or so, battleships have 12,000 or so. It's designed to allow you to improve the grid a little bit to fit weird stuff, but also to prevent you from going overboard with oversized stuff; no matter how many skills you train and how many power modules and rigs you install, you're never going to improve that frigate's grid to come even close to a cruiser.

Frigates are good. They cost approx 400k new, and you can expect fittings that cost you another 400-800k; go for that and you should be good. Don't go for super-expensive modules. At about 1.2 m a pop, you can get your money back with a couple hours mining or doing a mission or two, or even from PVP if you loot the enemies you've killed and sell the loot.

EDIT: If you want to copy a fitting example that you see on the internet, but it uses modules that are too expensive, look at the Variations tab for each module, in-game, it will list all versions of that module. Then you can right-click and check market details to find a cheaper version that you can afford.

The Condor is a small and fast ship. It works well with rockets, where you can get close to your target quickly, and stay there (control the range in the engagement), which usually means fitting a web.

My first Condor used ONLY a small smartbomb. It was a very silly fit that could run the smartbomb continuously (also had a small shield booster to help keep capacitor low, and a NOS), but I loved it and had a lot of fun with it. It ate enemy drones.

Experiment. Don't feel you have to use other people's fits. The Condor is also very inexpensive to replace.

The Condor isn't going to win any prizes for best combat ship, but it is an excellent beginner ship for PVP. I used to buy and fit them 4 at a time, get them blown up then fit 4 more. You have a number of options for fitting, so you can practice kiting, brawling, tackling and so on.

This will give you some ideas, but experiment yourself ... lots of fun and lots of learning for very little ISK

Condor is OK as a basic introduction into the style of combat called Kiting. Generally, fit mentalities are Kite, ScramKite and Brawl. Kite typically means your ship is designed to fight at the edge of Warp Disruptor range (or more in some cases) so the 18k-24k window. ScramKite is designed to fight at the edge of Warp Scrambler range, so the 7-10k range. Brawling is literally as close to your opponents face as you can get and just slugging it out.

Given that you have started Caldari, you actually have decent choices for all of those categories. The Condor, as you already know, is decent in the Kiting game. It's DPS is tiny, but it will kill most things eventually if left alone long enough. You can rocket fit it if you wanted, but that is more suited to other caldari ships IMHO.

Like the Kestrel. The Kestrel is not as fast as a Condor, so it does not kite as well, though it can be done. However, it can get more DPS than a Condor and it has higher base HP. Slot layout allows flexibility in whether ytou want to scram kite or brawl, both of which will use rockets.

Finally, they also have the Merlin, this is by far the slowest of the three, and it uses Turrets instead of Missiles, however it too has multiple Style options. It also has a pretty decent slot layout, allowing for oddball fits should you want to try something weird. Want to brawl? Blasters with web(s) and buffer tank. Scram kite? Fit rails, webs, buffer or dps modules depending on your mood. It can also be a bit of an anti-kite if using higher sized rails; while not doing tons of damage at extreme range, 150mm with the right ammo can hit a traditional Kiter just hard enough to make them want ot leave, and any fight you survive is a victory.

All that said, if it was me, and assuming only your missile/shield skills were trained, id stick to Condor and Kestrel for now, with a preference towards Kestrel....I personally feel that shorter ranges require more individual skill than range kiting; others may disagree with me.
