AFK site farming with MTUs ?

I warped into a complex last night and there was an MTU there. Can those operate with the pilot not present?

In other words is the guy farming wrecks by just dropping MTUs in the first room of every combat site he can find and then scooping the loot later?

MTUs work just fine without a pilot nearby

No he is not "AFK" farming loot. The MTU will only tractor in white (and blue?) wrecks/cans, definitely not yellow. So while he could drop one in every site he can find and later collect them, it wont kill stuff and they don't tractor in wrecks/cans from another player so what use would it have?

They can be used to drop one when you finish a site or room and go on the next one and later come back to collect the loot. However, the MTU has a very big sig radius (I think BS sized, might even be a bit bigger) and is thus very easy to scan down. Other players can simply shoot the MTU and collect the loot too.
