You know, if CCP had used the time/money/resources they threw into a fire with World of Darkness, Dust514, etc on EVE instead we could be up to Tech4 and be walking, gambling, fighting, and screwing in Stations by now.

Now they throw money into a fire with Valkyrie and we still have a million 1/2 implemented or outdated/broken features.

I do agree with you in principle. I think the biggest mistake was to make Dust console-only (especially since all EVE players already own a PC and would be the most likely candidates to at least give Dust a try).

But at least CCP learnt their lesson and are not going to repeat the mistake by making Valkyrie only run on 500+ dollar proprietary hardware that you need to buy first.... Oh wait.

And don't even get me started on WoD... when I think about all those man-years of dev time that was wasted on Incarna (which was mainly done to create and beta-test a 3d engine that supports digital eyelash rendering for use in WoD) then it really makes me sad.

Wasn't WOD being used to work on Wis for eve? I thought they were using Atlanta's "progress" as a base to do Wis (aside from the obvious incarna being a test for the wod systems and all that, I thought it was a matter of the Iceland and Atlanta offices bouncing ideas and developments back and forth). I might be wrong since I didn't pay that much attention to WOD and all.

CCP should have made no attempt to diversify, including their deal with occulus rift to have every OR system come with a new CCP game (one of the few good decisions ccp has made recently) exposing every OR buyer to the EvE universe, all so that we can do more walking in stations in a game about flying and exploding spaceships?

Mmmkay.

Everyone makes mistakes.

I think it's far too early to call Valkyrie a mistake.

If it wasn't WoD/DUST/Valkyrie/Gunjack, it would have been something else. Lots of people think "if ccp would jsut stop wasting money on other things EVE would be great". It's not true, either some other project would have been the focus (because CCPs knows they are extremely vulnerable just having one real money making product) OR that money would have gone into the pockets of some share/stakeholders or another, (because those kinds of people always want higher and higher returns on their money, no matter how unreasonable that expectation becomes).

Making EVE more wonderful (ie giving people who already play it more and better stuff) doesn't make CCP any more money immediately. Sure, it would make sense longer term, but companies tend to think of the 'now' money. It's why telecom companies don't give you more and more stuff (because they already have YOU and thus can take you for granted) but offer all the goodies to new customers (because they don't have them yet) in the form of new products and freebies.

That's not really an accurate assessment of what happened. Part of the problem with WoD's development is that CCP was actually taking White Wolf staff off of the project to work on EVE. WoD ultimately failed because of endless delays, the inability to turn it into a coherent game for release, and they missed the cultural peak of the whole vampire thing. EVE did far more damage to WoD than the other way around.

DUST 514 may have been a disappointment, but it was at least an attempt to grow the company's playerbase and attract crossover players. That at least made more sense than releasing a vampire MMO that wouldn't have synergized with EVE at all.

Fact is, WoD team members working in Atlanta office were used sometimes for EVE updates, they were involved in creating racial CQ, some of Incarna WiS key features in expansion and before with planets if i remember correctly. They complained a lot about that. But maybe if they would work full time on EVE, it would look completely different from the start. But this NEX store and prices there and communication from CCP about all this macrotransactions sucked nonetheless. 1000$ jeans Roll.

I take it you're a "millennial", OP?

Just based on the fact that you think that your $15 monthly expenditure entitles you to tell CCP how to run their company.

I don't know what the **** a millennial is, but please point out how my casual musing was telling CCP how to prioritize their projects?

I don't have to "assume" anything about you from your post, its pretty obvious your an ignorant jackass, so go **** yourself.

I said it COULD of been done differently, I didn't say that 'different' would have been the best thing ever because 'my years of internet armchair business learning and overwhelming intellect and if I was in charge everything would be great because I am very smart'.

Making correct strategic decisions in software development is very difficult, especially if the people making key decisions are not professional software engineers. When there is a lack of technical expertise, decisions start to get made based on emotions or imagination instead of detailed technical facts. Of course, it is possible to make good decisions without being an engineer, just look at Apple/Steve Jobs.

I think most of the EVE community is with you in wanting the development company to focus on the core aspects of EVE.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!! "Millennials" are children who believe that just because they're breathing air and occupying space, they're ENTITLED to things ON DEMAND. They think they can go about expecting, expecting, expecting without contributing, contributing, contributing, and have no regard whatsoever if they have the standing, rank, merit or other qualification to make said demands.

What's a millennial....too much. We used to call them "Pampered Menials", or "Baby Hueys".

True but would be nice to see a little more effort devoted to cash cow and less to someones great idea. Or else better market analysis for what is truly the next great idea.

More internet spaceships would make me happy.

Why don't you go ahead and post the link where i said anything of the sort.

Your type is typical of any forum (hell, humanity in general). If someone else does something, why they are jsut being arrogant know it alls,. but if YOU do the same thing (and many would agree that your op here is worse than anything I've every said about CCP), well, that's perfectly ok.

You're simply a hypocrite, When others have problems with what CCP is doing, you jump all over them as if CCP is perfect, but then you have a problem with CCP and think it's legitimate. Don't get mad at me or others for pointing that out, you're the one with the problems.

CCP not doing WoD or DUST or Valkyrie doesn't mean they would have done anything different in EVE. It's plain stupid to think so.

My post referred Tech4 meaning much spaceship advancing, as well as station stuff. Meant progress in EVE in general not just space barbie.

CCP focusing on EVE has given us Aegis/Fozzie Sov (which people are still equating to some very deadly RL deseases, I've heard it called EbolacancerAids on teamspeak), Jump Fatigue that makes moving around harder for individuals while giving groups like Goons and PL unassailable local super-cap superiority (so much so that PL is dropping super carriers on CRUISERS lol) and SP trading whIch stands to possible upend the entire culture of the EVE Community. And the latest Dev Blog about security is an incredible mess

If that's what CCP focusing on the game gets us, I hope to BoB they find something else to focus on soon. I'd rather they renew interest on Incarna than give us more of this recent stuff....
