Hi all, haven't been at FW for a long time, but the other night while flying some missions I came under attack by the Gal NPC gate guards. When I went to return fire I was presented with a warning message stating that I would take a sec status hit if I attacked this "peacful entity". Ugh

Obviously this took me by surprise as they were:

A. the enemy of my mitita

B. currently shooting at me

Im sure alot of you have encounterd this before and I just wanted to ask what your opinion of it was. I mean it just seems to defeat the purpose of FW if you cant engage the navy of the opposing factions without taking a concord standing hit. Its as if I went to war, shot a legitimate target and then had some cop stroll up and give me a ticket.

So what do you guys think, should we be allowed to attack the opposing navy's ships, possibly even be given some loot for it (not sure if you already get loot, havent killed one yet), or does the concord status hit serve some purpose that I am not aware of.

Shooting NPC ships (unless they're CONCORD) won't give you a sec status penalty, it will give you an aggression timer to the Gallente and a standings loss with them though. And of course the gates in Gallente space and stations (assuming it's a Gallente station) sentry guns will also open fire on you.

If you took a sec status hit, that'd be for criminal activities, short of shooting CONCORD NPC's you'd have to illegally aggress other players.

The faction navies aren't onehit gods like CONCORD, they're still tougher than your average faction rat.

Ahh so this was just a case of my ignorance, thanks for clearing that up.

Though, opening yourself up to attack from neutrals in high sec, via the aggression timer does seem a little heavy handed, when you are in truth you are just attacking your enemy.

Anyways thanks agian for the info.

Neutrals won't get involved. Just the faction you're shooting, the police at the gates are the same guys who control gate and station guns (with the exception of stations of another faction in the system. So if you shoot a Matari convoy outside a Gallente station in Gallente space for example, no one will come to defend it)
