So I have this C1 WH. I do pretty much everything in it, although i gave up on mining. Too much hassle with a C1.

Anyhow, I thought i'd look into making polymers with the gas I collect.

So far unless my math is way off, I make far better profit selling the raw gasses on the market rather than wasting the time turning them into polymers. That doesnt even include the capital costs of the POS equipment and reaction BP's. Just the raw material costs.

For example looking at PPD Fullerene fibers. I have a per batch cost (Pyerite, C50, C60) of 2,010,177.78. A batch makes 250, so I end up with a per unit cost of 8,040.71. Right now PPD's seem to sell around 13,000, which gives me a per unit cost of 4,966.29. So basically a batch profit of 1,241,572.5

But that batch uses 300 units of Fullerite C50, which I can sell on the market at about 6,500. So just selling those 300 units of C50 gives me a profit of 1,950,000.

Granted the polymers are going to be far less bulky, but its not worth that much of a profit hit for hauling convenience.

Am I missing something?

[edit]

Also by my calculations some of the polymers literally sell for less than their component cost. On the others it is better isk/hr to just mine the better gas and ignor the less profitable components. But I cannot find a single one where it is worth the extra effort to make the polymer.

In a C1 wh, you are harvesting the crappy gases that, by themselves, can only make crappy polymers. The good gases are deeper in w-space. However, the rarer gases also need these common gases to create the more valuable polymers, so some manufacturers will pay decent isk for the 'cheap' gases to complete their reactions.

The above is probably true but I don't see where polymers aren't worth the effort. Sometimes they aren't, but supply and demand and all that take hold.

Here is what I show:

Let me know how it compares to what you have. Those are Jita Min Sell prices.
