A Way to look up item DNA in eve

Hi, i've seen some tools avaliable to convert EFT builds into Ship DNA (to make ship links on website with IGB), and i was wondering if there is an API or some services where i can lookup the DNA of certain ships or items for this same purpose.

The example is saw however seems like you have to use your own login credentials to be able to query the DNA.

I was wondering how is this done to begin with, and is it possible to do these kinds of queries without having to enter a login somewhere (maybe an API Key or something else than a login would also suffice)?

Im looking to develop my own tool for doing this. :)

https://github.com/fuzzysteve/Ship.js is a way to do it (in php. needs some of the database tables too)
