how does one locate wrecks suitable for salvage. I am an industry pilot so I wont be shooting them myself. are wrecks 'scannable'?

nope,however the people making them are.

they are also people and often will not mind if you want to clear their wreck sites
some will shoot you in the face for it but if you ask in local beforehand you will know if they're the sort .

There are corporations that offer salvaging as a service. Mission runners bookmark their sites and a contractor loots and salvages the site for them - proceeds are split 50/50 minus an admin fee charged by the corporation. http://pro-syn.org/index.php
