1 min is not enough time to just close the server, if you can wait 1 min you can wait a couple more....

i saw the popup and before i could click it the server went down... must be a major exploit for that kind of responce

Unless it's an emergency/unscheduled shutdown you get at least 15 minutes warning.

The key words here being Emergency and Unscheduled, both of which imply that it's not the norm.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Probably something to do with the launcher only offering a 404 error screen rather than the username / password credentials boxes (which itself seems to have happened about 10 minutes before they shut the server)

Explains why i suddenly had login failure, and the launcher saying status unknown. o well.

The message did state an emergency reboot was to take place in 20 min... so either the server crashed before the planned 20min reboot or someone at CCP hit the red button.

Actually, it said the shutdown was taking place in 1 minute (well, it gave a specific time 1 minute after the notification).
It also said 'see you in 20 minutes' meaning they expected it to be down for 20 minutes, not to GO down in 20 minutes

Im not sure if its true but i heard of downtimes of weeks long before i started playing. I think ccp do a good job. For serverarchitectures you need in eve there are pretty few emergency downtimes.
