Weird, it's almost like they're focusing on their core business instead of ancillary concerns.

Their core business is earning 15 $/month in 2016, for something that costed 15 $/month in 2003. I even started a thread asking for help from people with enough knowledge in economics to tell wether a company like CCP may be losing money due to inflation vs constant subscription fee, or don't.

PLEX wasn't around in 2003 though, I have to think that introduction added a pretty big chunk of money for CCP

I think that is not necessarily true. The subscription base was CCP's core business back in 2003, but I'm not sure it is anymore.

If it is, then if 20k subscriptions was enough to be profitable, then considering there are well over 200k subscriptions and that even with the old core, CCP is probably very profitable compared to its inception. Even accounting for inflation and exchange rates.

It looks to me though that the core business has shifted to plex. Just compare the amount of free plex in game to accounts. Consider how many players buy hundreds of plex and sell on the market.

The problem with standard subscription plans is it puts an artificial cap on income. 200k players pay $15 per month. Income = no more than $3 million. With plex, now there is an incentive to pay more than the monthly rate, and it allows some players to play for free, because someone else is paying for that month. So there is no built-in limit to the income.

With subscription model the only way to increase revenue is to increase the subscriber base. With plex revenue is increase based on increased incentives. So a diminishing subscriber base can actually show an increase in profits.

So that is why I'm pretty sure that if CCP were to chime in and define the core of their business model today, it would be the plex.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

You considered a thought they could be switching to FTP soon?

FTP is about micro-transactions, and CCP sucks at micro-transactions. So not really.

Now if these skins were about $1-5 each, if the monocle were $10 not $40 then yea, I could see FTP in the near future.
