ISK Donation "Reason", is this field used?

When a player donates ISK to another player the dialog box invites the player to enter the amount to be donated and to give a "Reason" for the donation.

However, I do not see anywhere that the "Reason" data is used or can be looked up.

For example, when I receive ISK donations all I see on my Wallet journal list is:

[r] PlayerSoAndSo deposited cash into Droidster's account

The reason is not given. (What does the "[r]" mean, btw, as long as I am asking about the Wallet journal?)

I believe the r means they provided a reason and last I knew, you just hover your mouse over the entry in the wallet and a small pop-up with the reason text shows.

the [r] tags means someone typed a reason for the transaction. It can be used when taking or giving money to a corporation wallet as well.

If you mouse over the transaction in your wallet a tooltip box will pop up displaying what ever the person typed in the reason box when giving you the isk, and vice versa.

yes it is and it's obvious why.

this brand of trolling aint your strong suit mate,
playing dumb without actually being all that clever isnt a good look.

at least nevil had the good grace to confuse the respondents in his threads with insane double think and inverted logic of an intriguing complexity.

the fun there was seing how long it took before someone could unravel the cleverly disguised madness, find the point where he was being deliberately obtuse, correct him, only to realise the last 15 pages were a troll.

he put effort in and was starting to get good too.
this is just "tehehe, im asking questions ... but i already know the answers ... im so clever tehehe"

You hold your mouse over the [r] and see the reason they typed.

The user interface in EVE has a lot of hidden features like this, that aren't documented or explained anywhere.

Also, Newbie Questions and Answers forum is moderated more heavily against making fun of "clueless" questions, because the newbies are still learning. General Discussion, on the other hand, den of scum and villainy.

I use it all the time.

in my wormhole dunking squad, i'm usually the Loot Buyer. I pay out for all the sleeper loot and salvage we collect in a ratting fleet, when I send the ISK, I use the 'reason' field to tell them where they're paid out until, eg: Sleeper Loot Payout, 28/1/16 13:45EVE.

Or, if one of our squad is bringing a freighter or something down to our static exit and they're bringing in stuff for me or the corp, the reason will say so, eg: 'payment for X-Type Maguffin' or 'payment for fuel blocks' (I use that last one a lot).

Lastly, if some poor benighted newbro finds themselves on the receiving end of my Autocannons, I may (or may not) send them some ISK to buy a new ship, the reason will say so, eg: 'Sorry about your Hookbill, buy yourself another one on me'

I dunno man, you both have some stubble shade going on there. Ralph has clearly been on chemo for most of his adult life and therefor wins at baldness.

IIRC the 'reason' field is also available in the API, which making filtering in a spreadsheet very easy.

Mouse-over the reason to see it.

I use reason all the time when giving people ISK, so they know what I gave it for.

I probably use the reasons like "Welcome to EVE!" and "New pilot scholarship" the most.
