Seems CCP gave up on this bug since there has been no communication from them for a month. Can't really blame them as it is an Intel driver error and not their fault. Still sucks that I need to use a 3 year old driver to play Eve.

Maybe because we can?
I have a 5 year old Notebook, with Windows Vista 32-bit, intergrated graphics, and 2 gigs of DRAM memory, and the game runs flawlessly. I have been playing for 2 years now, so I "Upgrade" to a new Widows System 7 64-bit dual processor notebook with "HD" graphics to "keep current" and I find that I can't jump gates without crashing?

Yet, my old notebook keeps playing on with 5 year old tech....

Tells me that it's NOT THE INTERGRATED GRAPHICS, It's an issue between INTEL HD drivers and CARBON.

I saw this 10 years ago with Voodoo OpenGL ... The Industry is having to choose who to support, and who to let FAIL.

We haven't given up, there's just not really much to report. I'll try some changes in the next patch, but it's tricky to deal with this when I have no reliable repro case and as you say, this is likely to be an Intel driver error so I have to find a workaround that doesn't compromise performance on other hardware.

Hi!
I can say that this bug still exists, since it happens to me every time I play. Sometimes the screen just goes dark and then goes back to the game, but sometimes the game goes black, goes back to the desktop and it craches.
This is really a huge problem for me since I don´t know when it is going to bug out or just going to black out for a second.
I have contacted support and we tried several things, but sadly not one of them worked.
I really have to give it to the support though, they are really professional and fast with giving you help and support.
Big applause to you guys! :)

I started experiencing this as well. The display driver itself crashes and then recovers on undock, gate jump, and jump bridge use. It does *not* crash when docking. I'm using a Dell Latitude E4310 with Intel HD Graphics driver version 8.15.10.2104 (from 03/31/2010, though it's the most updated driver available). I believe it's the x3100 chipset.

I don't have Singularity on this machine; only Tranquility. Is there a log file I can provide that would be helpful?

Fix POSes.  Every player should want one (even if all players can't have one).

Follow the instructions here and file a bug report. Those logs could be very helpful. If you could include screenshots captured right after the driver recovers that might give me some clues. I've been banging on this for a while now on a similar laptop to no avail - I'll see if this particular driver version helps me reproduce the issue.

Next client patch will also have slightly more detailed logging directed at tracking down this issue.

Have you tried running it in windowed mode and as soon as you hit the undock button, minimizing the window and then waiting about 20 seconds before maximizing the window? For whatever reason this works for me, and I think a few of the other people posting in this thread.

Since I started running EVE in windowed mode only, there are very few crashes and only when undocking.

Still quite annoying, and not very convenient when at war.

I've added more detailed logging in the latest client patch to help track down this issue. If you still experience this consistently, run with LogServer and file a bug report to my attention.

I've spent several days trying to reproduce this on a Dell laptop with an Intel HD graphics card, with several different versions of the graphics driver and have not seen any driver crashes. It is very frustrating for me not to be able to resolve this - I know this is causing you a lot of pain, but all I can do is ask for your continued patience and to keep sending us logs.

I've reproduced one of the crashes with the log file running, report 130086. This was with today's new build.

This is what happened right as the crash happened. (These crash the game to the taskbar, but the process still runs and task manager states it as running, rather than not responding, but all efforts to restore it to view fail. These crashes are much rarer than just the black screen that lasts a few seconds.)

I am still getting crashes on most undocks now, when running dual client. After about 5-8 seconds I get screen freeze, and then booted off game. My characters are stuck in station now, unless I only operate a single client.

Please run with LogServer and file a bug report, attaching the .lbw file and the crash dump. The more information I get about crashes, the better chance I have of fixing them.

When running dual client I usually don't have problems with the crashes nearly as bad. Instead of happening every jump, it usually only happens one in ten times. This seems to be tied into Windows' graphics rebooter feature. It turns off and restarts the video card when it thinks it has frozen or stopped responding. I use a TV and my laptop monitor to play, running one client of EVE on both. The crashes become more common if I'm actively using the client that is doing the jump. If I'm messing around on the other client on the other screen, a crash on the jump appears to be less likely. The same for when undocking. I think it's sort of "tricking" the windows 7 graphics rebooter by keeping the video card constantly running and loading something.

But of course, I could be wrong about everything.

EDIT: (I was not running two clients or dual screens during the prior logs)

Im running an ACER Aspire with an Intel HD Graphics chip, and i have this issue everytime i undock or jump gates.... this has been happening ever since incarna hit the field. The original laptop i used to run EVE on, an alienware Aroura which can run Fallout 3 on all the highest graphics without even one lag spike, can't even run EVE at all without a Blue screen error.....

Tbh, i love EVE, and i will keep playing it, however, without either a fix to this current situation, or a new machine, my patience is gonna run out.

To CCP, i would like to say thanks for the continued effort to finding the problem, and i hope you succeed.

I had been using the old driver posted in this thread as a work around. For pure experiments sake today I decided to try and update to a newer driver. I tried the 1/21/12 Intel had out for the laptop GMAs (Win 7 64-bit) and I seem to have no issues at all. Tried all different graphics settings, fullscreen, fullscreen windowed, and pure windowed without any crashes. Worked with everything on and set to high as well. Seems like something got fixed one way or the other.

EDIT* Never mind, still there. I did not crash once in my initial tests, but once I loaded up two clients for my normal dualbox play it resurfaced. I went back into testing it thinking it may be based on ship size as others have said, and have found that I crashed at about the same rate with my Cheetah as with my Nightmare. It goes through odd cycles where I will crash almost ever jump and undock no matter what ship I am in for maybe 20 jumps in a row, and then I won't crash for 20 or so jumps (probably what initially gave me hope). Can't seem to find any correlation between this issue and settings. Was nice getting to play on high graphics again, but I guess it is back to the old driver and low graphics to stem the crashes until Intel gets it together and fixes the issue in a new driver.

I'm sorry to necro this thread, but I'd like to have some news from devs, is this bug still being watched?
I tried the fix proprosed in the OP, but with the old drivers, performance are really poor and my laptop seems to suffer of a huge overheating problem.. rolled back to the latest driver today and no more overheating.. but the problem is still there Sad (latest patches, on the other hand, had decreased blank screen a bit).

I have a HP Pavilion dm4, Intel HD graphics, and have the same problem when using the latest drivers.

I downgraded, as suggested, and the problem is fixed. However, downgrading means I no longer have missile effects (they show beautifully with an updated driver).

I have no idea who is shooting me as there are no trails...at all, with GPU particles on or off.

Is there any update on this issue being solved, so that I can use the latest drivers?

After further analysis, It appears that this problem is directly related to planetary rendering. This is why it doesn't happen on every single gate, but always happens on a station undock.

If anyone can further test this besides just me, try jumping through gates with no planets and with gates with planets.
