If you have an account with 3 characters:

One has 95,000,000 skill points and 3 remaps and charisma of 15, so remaps will NEVER ever happen on that toon, training queue stopped

Second has 12,000,000 SP and is training to become a nice alt, and could really use the remap, training queue stopped

Third is training to become a cyno alt real quick, but won't end until Feb, but doesn't want or need the remap, training queue active


Which toon will get it, or do I get to choose? i.e. if I login with toon one, two or three, is that the one that will get the remap when I claim it??

Sure. To answer (1), you will not receive additional timed remaps if you allow additional years to pass between remaps. Once the timer expires, it does not "count up" to give you more remaps.

This is, unfortunately, a limitation of the system's original architecture. We can't fix that without making a bigger change to how the neural remapping system works, and we couldn't confidently do that in the short time-frame between now and when the changes had to go live in order for you all to enjoy a neurally-remapped Christmas.

For (2), you will receive a second remap as a gift in your case.

The current system has no way of telling whether you used a bonus remap or a timed remap, and that's the core issue that we're fixing with the new system. The old system would reset your timer every time you remapped, regardless of whether it was a bonus remap or a timed remap.

To answer the timer part of question (2) and (3), existing characters' timers will not change. For example, if you used a bonus or normal remap on the 1st of November, 2011, and you select a neural remap as your Christmas gift, you will be able to remap normally on the 1st of November, 2012. If you decide to use your shiny new bonus remap before the 1st of November, 2012, your timer will be unaffected and you will still be able to remap normally on that date.

Unfortunately, the current UI obfuscates the details of which types of remaps you have in certain cases. If you open up the character sheet, you will see something like this with the current system:

If you have 2 or more bonus remaps, then the UI will say something like "Neural Remap Available: 2 remaps" (or 3, or 4, etc.)

If you have 1 bonus remap, the UI will say "Neural Remap Available: Now".

If you have 0 bonus remaps available, and your remapping timer has expired, the UI will also say "Neural Remap Available: Now".

If you have 0 bonus remaps available and your timer has not yet expired, then it will show the date at which the timer will expire.

We're fixing this! The new UI, which will be included in the code update, displays both your timer and your number of bonus remaps (if any). Here's a little screenshot I just snapped.

In this screenshot, my testing character has remapped today but still has one bonus remap available. You will always see "Neural Remap Available:" followed by the date at which your next timed remap becomes available. If that date has passed, then you will see the word "Now" instead of the date.

If you have one or more bonus remaps, you will see "Bonus Remaps Available:" and the number of remaps. If you have no bonus remaps at all, then that text simply will not appear.

Hopefully the new UI is a lot clearer!

I have 2 remaps available at the moment, hopefully three with the bonus.

I'd like to remap to Int/Per on or about 1 February and then to Mem/Cha in about September. (That uses two remaps.) Will I be able to use the last remap in about March 2013?

If your UI says that you have 2 remaps available, this means your timer has already expired and you have two bonus remaps. Selecting the neural remapping Christmas gift will give you a third bonus remap.

Assuming you wait until the new code is live (which will be before you receive your neural remap gift), then you will actually be able to remap as planned, and still have two bonus remaps left over:

Your first remap around the 1st of February, 2012, will use your "timed remap". This will set your timer for the 1st of February, 2013. After this first remap, you will still have three bonus remaps.

Your second remap in September 2012 will use up one of your bonus remaps, leaving you with two bonus remaps. Your timer will still expire on the 1st of February, 2013.

Your third remap in March 2013 occurs after your remap timer expires - so it will use your timed remap again! Your timer will be set for March 2014, and you will still have two bonus remaps.

Because it would be trivially easy to create arbitrary quantities of them with buddy invites:

Create new account with buddy invite
Use PLEX to sub new account, get PLEX back for subbing buddy account
Sell the 2 free remaps on the new account
Repeat 2 more times
Use buddy invites from the 3 new accounts to create 9 more accounts
Sell 18 more remap tokens
Etc.

If you allow remaps to be tradeable, you might as well just give everyone 27 in every stat.

Quick and timely implementation of a good solution on short notice. And on top of that excellent communication.

Not even half a year ago I would have laughed at anybody who would have coupled any of the above with CCP.

The best gift for me? Seeing how everyone worked that well together! The community reporting some serious problems, the community team and developers quickly pulling together, checking possible solutions, a swift action to prevent further possible disappointments, quick communication and then of course more heavy developer magic, resulting in this fantastic turn around and great result.
