As to loot, there is an argument there, but it's not a perfect one like you claim. If a ship blows up there's already a chance cargo and mods blow up. Scuttling is used to stop the capture of the ship itself and in some cases codes and such info, not necessarily all the ships parts or cargo. So not sure that it should be any different with self destructing.

you should blob and kill the target in seconds just like everybody else, imho there shouldnt be any killmail where fight is longer than a minute --> less server lag
