So, I resubed and want to mine back up my nest egg, is there still hulkageddon events going on or has the miner bashing cooled off some? I noticed that 100% refine is gone, anything else big change for miners? I have a fenrir pilot too, whats the typical safest max cargo value you can move? as in how much isk do high sec suicide ganks need to kill a freighter? Thanks for any answers.

For miners, mining barge and their tech II variant have been rebalanced, hulk is now a fleet ship (fragile with a small ore hold), mackinaw have a big ore hold and skiff can easily achieve a battleship tank. The three of them have roughly the same yield, the hulk having a bigger one.

If you have been away for long, you will notice that Compression array now exist for POS, they dont cost more than a refining array and really are worthwhile quickly.

Hulkaggedon is no more but a alliance called CODE. roam around highsec and suicide gank every mining ship they can get with catalyst, they wont approach skiff or procurer most of the time though, too hard to break the tank before Concord come.

About freighter I don't know, but CODE. is after them too, so a good idea would nbe to have an other character to web the ship to make it get in warp faster.

EDIT : Ice has now be transferred to anomalies, still in the same systems, but they can deplete now and come back after 4 hours.
And recently Null sec ore had their composition changed to make null sec resident more able to live on their own, so more trit pyerite and so forth in the ores. http://evenews24.com/2015/04/14/49289/

Since the most common complaint we get is that no one has told a miner/freighter pilot about the Code its only fair to tell the OP that purchasing a mining permit from your local New Order Agent for 10,000,000 ISK and pledging to follow the Code will provide you with protection from being ganked by CODE. for one full year.

Welcome back!

Asking you to calm down in advance.

Highsec is worth fighting for.

By choosing to mine in New Order systems, highsec miners have agreed to follow the New Halaima Code of Conduct.  www.minerbumping.com

It costs nothing for us to gank as we have a ship replacement program, in fact you should give ganking a try.

Random acts of blowing up freighters and sure, sure i get that. Im more worried about what the profitability cut off is for frieghters then some random attack although im sure those do happen

What do you think you need your freighter in order to ship?

Nowadays compressed ore is so value-dense, you can put 2, 3, even 4 billion isk of it into a deepspace transport ship that is harder to catch than a freighter.

Hm, so minerals arn't the best way to ship ores anymore? interesting

Since people no longer need a Rorqual, but just a small pos and a compress array that does the job instantly, yes its easier to haul it like this. POS are way easier to put in space too, you no longer need standings, just pos fuel blocks and charters.

An older thing that I didn't know before it was nerfed to the ground was to keep a kind of large turret (railgun I think) to reprocess it when at destination.

I assume you will be doing all of this in highsec. As other have said CODE and others are around to provide content for everyone. There are several ways to deal with this though. Flying a procurer or a skiff is the best. Putting a tank on your Mack or Hulk works but not as well. All of the exhumers can fit enough tank to stop a single catalyst from ganking them. The other thing is to find an out of the way system that no one goes to. 10+ jumps from a trade hub is where i would start looking.

As for the other suggestions of putting up a POS and compression array, those are great ideas too. A small tower takes almost no time to online and uses little fuel. Not many people will mess with it since there is no profit in destroying a compression array and small stick. You can also buy ore cheap, compress it, and then resell it. I had a corp member do that for a while and made plenty of isk. If you have a second character they can boost from inside the POS. That will increase your mining yield by about 30%.

You also mentioned hauling. About 1bil in cargo is the max i would go. I would also tank it as much as possible, and never AFK autopilot. Those are the types of people that CODE provides content to. As always look out for the scam contracts. I personally do not know anyone who had their miner or hauler ganked when they were paying attention and not being dumb. Fly smart and you shouldn't have a problem.
