I trade researched BPOs on contracts and anyone who sells things on contracts is making their name public. You can also view any character or corporation's public contract history by typing their name in the 'Owner' box on the 'My Contracts' tab of the Contracts window, I used this to see how much other traders were buying and selling for and then based my early trading decisions on that info.
