Which ship should I train for?

So i recently returned to the game and decided I just wanted to be a little more combat oriented. My char is heavily invested in industry and science skills and I have almost no combat oriented skills. I did notice that II am only a few days away from getting a Loki.

That said, I want to do a little bit of everything, except missions. And for that the Loki seem like a nice fit since i can change the subsystems to fit what I want to do. My friends that I am playing with at the moment wants to do Incursions and exploration. And I want to do some pvp as well, though that will probably happen anyway while we are doing WHs and stuff like that. After returning after all this time I feel a little noobish so spending all my ISK on a ship I will loose the first engagement seems like a waste.

So finally my question. Wtf should I train for? I have Minmatar Cruiser 5, so training for BC or some of the advanced cruisers should not be an issue. Though my base skills are a little low atm.

Any help would be welcome :)

If you plan on joining your friend for incursions sometimes training up for a Scimitar is a good investment. Can be used for pos repping where you can't deploy capitals also.

For PvP the Loki is a good choice, but might be a bit pricy and skill intensive, especially if you don't have much experience and loose a lot of them. Pretty much all of the T2 minnie cruisers are good though so can't go wrong training them.

Don't forget about faction cruisers either, and plain T1 ships aren't bad either. Might be easier to get a fight with also if you want to do pvp roams.

EDIT: Make sure to train support skills, focus on a weapon system, rigging skills can help with fitting sometimes but otherwise not a priority since they aren't needed to fit rigs anymore. Get T2 weapons, it really makes the difference with some ships. Get skills to use drugs and overheat modules also.

Loki, Cynabal, Svipul, Sleipnir ... there's a good lineup if you're going to train for Loki. Note Cynabal also requires Gallente Cruiser

In the meantime if you really want to PvP I'd suggest starting out in cheap ships like the Stabber, which actually is a really good ship.

This, definitely. Scimitar will be useful for Incursions as well as for pvp, and will make you a true friend to your corpmates, which is the most important thing.

Some other hints:

RIght now, for PVP:

- Cheap: Stabber, Rupture, TP Bellicose, Scythe (to get ready to fly a scimi)
- Affordable: Scythe Fleet, Stabber Fleet

Later, for PVP:

- Recon V: Huginn, Rapier
- Logistics V: Scimitar
- Minmatar subsystems V: Loki

Later, for PVE:

- Loki (mid/high class wormhole PVE)
- BS V: Maelstrom (0.0 anomalies, incursions)
- BS V + Gallente BS V: Machariel (0.0 anomalies, incursions)
- Marauders V: Vargur (0.0 anomalies, wormhole PVE)

To sum up:

- for PVP; tech 1 . faction cruisers, recons, logistics, T3 are a great choice. Skip HACs as they are a bit mediocre right now
- for PVE; minmatar really shines at BS size, so training this way might be a good idea. You can of course train battlecruisers in the meantime, but they are not really good for PVE, if you except the Sleipnir which is really far away in terms of training time.
- You mention minmatar cruiser V, but if you get bitten by the PVP bug, the small sized minmatar ships are very good PVP platforms. Stiletto, Svipul, Sabre are some of the most efficient ships in their roles.

T3 cruisers are a great deal of fun, HOWEVER do remember they cannot do ded combat sites lower than 6/10, in which all higher than that are in lowsec and null.

Hey guys. Sorry for the late reply it has just been crazy at school this semester.

Just wanted to thank you all for great feedback and I think I have a plan going forward.
At the moment I am training for the Scimitar which will be followed by Cynabal and most of the support skills.
I only need about 3 days of training for the Strategic Cruiser so no need to rush that :)

Found out how crappy my skills really are when i tried to do level 2 missions in a Rupture i bought and got owned :P

You should just train for the Muninn. That ship is the best all around HAC right now. Has excellent tanking abilities, decent damage projection with good application out to 60km with 720s and a very strong cap recharge that can perma-run 2 med reppers with only 2 cap mods. It's only downside is that it's kinda slow, but that is mitigated by it's long range projection and super fast cycling of the 720s to make mincemeat of anything beyond 40km within 60 seconds.

Erm. T3s can do 5/10s.

Still low sec, so that point holds.
