Attempted Connection with Unknown Elements

To better understand the nature of unknown elements in the cluster:

1) We will begin broadcasting a SYN while awaiting an ACK using all known and speculated carrier frequencies in the Insmother Jovian observatories. Since the Drifters are not speaking human languages, perhaps they will respond to our connection attempts.

2) Humans that have additional wavelengths that they may respond to are welcome to submit their signal information to augment.

3) Any responses will be published in this thread.

Anyone tried going properly low-tech yet? Even the most dimwitted dirtsider can recognize basic mathematical patterns using anything that can be turned off and on again. A simple distance measuring laser would suffice for the task, delivering a little pitter-patter of prime numbers, sequences and such to establish a baseline and then move on to language codes.

Of course, the likelihood of this succeeding would remain as low as simply broadcasting at them, but it costs little to try.

That's actually the most stupid and inane attempt at contacting drifters I heard so far.

Have the author ever thought that SYN and ACK flags can have different encoding for different protocols? Even our protocols differ from ones being used pre-YC. To expect that the used message headers would match protocols used by drifters will be ridiculously unwise.

Well, Mizhara makes sense, their technology isn't like ours maybe we should aim for lower tech ways of communication to find a common ground in our technologies.

FILTHY TRIBALIST RESORTING TO BASIC FORMS OF COMMUNICATION! AND THIS IS WHY THE FEDERATION MUST BE DESTROYED!

Am I doing it right? Notice me, Diana! I must be noticed!

Never not badpost.

Semi-valid point. We will ensure to cycle among all known protocols. In addition we will also sort through any Angel relics we find for possible insight into Jovian Second Empire protocols for further use.

Why do you think there is a chance they use any known by us protocols?

You could also try things like modulated white noise, sine or square waves, on broad frequencies. Any type of flashing, synchronized lights, as well. However, it is unlikely that they are interested in communication. I can almost guarantee they understand us- but its a different story from "listen" to us.

Never not badpost.

I think and I admit its purely speculation however from what I've seen from drifters rather that be from first hand experience or detailed reports from others is there tech is quite a few notches above our own and further more flashing lights or numeric sequences would yield you little to no results at all. My points is if they wanted to communicate with us they would have by now...or maybe they will when they have something to say.

Your efforts are appreciated however at this point it seems they are out for blood and require no communication at all from their prey.

The thing is, we don't know much about them at all, which means we can't discount much if anything. While we can't guess at the likelihood of it, there's a chance that they are simply not recognizing the attempts at communication that has already been made or for some reason refuse to use these communication methods.

I'm all for them stomping on the Empire until they run out of targets there, but there's nothing to lose from projects like this crossing possibilities off the nigh endless list. The likelihood of success is pretty irrelevant, only the potential consequences or benefits of potential success.

When you said unknown elements, I absolutely assumed you meant the Drifter Hive Elements.

If they wanted they would communicate with us, they maybe don't have a reason to do so, don't see as equal. There may be many reasons.

They could already communicated with "us" but it's all kept secret by people they contacted.

Or it's not, at all. In fact, it's communicated every time they're seen in space.

CONCORD did not assign those identities to them; Apollo and Athena. They've communicated, albeit in a limited manner, using technology that interfaces with our own. If they wanted to talk, they could talk.

They don't want to talk.

For what it's worth, I attempted this using a basic laser target designator. They were less than receptive.

UPDATE:

98% of attempted connections failed due to timeout

1% of attempted connections received an ACK followed by a disconnect command. This is predominantly among streams that we use for passing data between units and command & control centers.

.5 % of attempted connections received garbage data. This is among streams that are used for visual data. Conclusion, the Drifters use a newer firmware than ours, acquisition of drifter ocular implants is needed.

.5 % of attempted connections received the following:

Survive. War. Other.

In digital distribution (for humans a pulse format rather than a wave) that would repeat for 4 to 8 cycles and then disconnect.

We are now beginning negotiations with the Consortium for Drifter organic parts, implants, and ideally intact corpses for further study. Ideally we can recreate Drifter implants and further study the: Survive. War. Other message.

So in other words, we either couldn't establish contact, when we could they ended it abruptly and the only messages we got back weren't reassuring for peace? I'm just wondering what "other" is, unless that's just simple things such as, ya know living and such...

Excellent work!

With Nation, we knew that at least one purpose of the invasion was to transform our civilization.

With these Jovians, it is difficult to identify any purpose. If any sustained communication could be established, it might become more clear why such an advanced society has any interest in us.

The fact that they can understand our communications just fine -- that they probably monitor the Scope and read the Summit as we speak -- should be as brilliantly obvious as an exploding Titan.

Even though our love is cruel; even though our stars are crossed.
