CCP Directory \res\DX9 missing

I would like to do some high res tweaking and renders of some of the EVE ships, but I seem to be missing the DX9 directory in

C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\res

I have nothing but a single file in this directory (yes, all hidden files and folders are set to visible).

I've tried downloading the offline client, but keep getting a 2709 install error. I've also checked the 'download all resources' box in the EVE installer, but that only added files to the shared cache in the Program Data files.

I'm familiar with the process of extracting the ships and textures, I just don't seem to have them on my local drive.

Any suggestions?

Mystery solved. Here's a solution based on what I've culled from various forum posts and from what was answered by technical support. Hopefully this will help others who have been mystified by this process overall as well.

It turns out regardless of the empty directory, the DX9 libraries are now stored in the shared cache. TriExporter will have no problem extracting once you point it to the proper directory. First, you need to make sure you have the resources properly downloaded.

If you installed the essentials with the basic Eve Online installer, go to your settings in the Eve Online Launcher > Downloads and at the bottom, check the box "Download all the resource files". Restart the Eve Online Launcher and it should start downloading additional files if it hasn't before. As a precaution, leave the Eve Online Launcher still running before you open TriExporter, as it may access the assets live from the active cache.

Download and launch TriExporter.

It doesn't matter which version you download, I've had success with both versions (5.1.0 or 5.1.1) on Windows 7 (64 bit).

Also, if you have Norton for anti-virus, it will tag TriExporter 5.1.1 as a threat and delete the executable, only because it's not a commonly used file. You should be able to restore it by telling Norton you want to keep it.

What's critical for success is pointing TriExporter to your Eve installation directory.

After you launch TriExporter go to File > Set Folder and point it to C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP and click once on the "EVE" folder, then click "OK". You should see "+ res" folder pop up in the left window. Just click on the + and follow the directories to DX9\model\ship and to the directory you want.

If you have any trouble with TriExporter working or crashing, I don't really know what to tell you, except consider cleaning out some of the junk on your system. I try to keep my system as clean as possible with minimal junk and my drivers updated, and that may be why I've had success from the start without crashes or problems of any sort. I'm not bragging nor preaching, it's just the way I operate my system to keep problems to a minimum. I also can't vouch for how it would work with Windows 8 or 10.

The .gr files are the various parts and resolutions of the ship. Double click on them and they should pop up in the preview window on the right.

The .dds files are the various texture maps for that ship.

Here's a link that explains the process a bit;

One thing that's outlined in the tutorial that's important to remember is when you read the .dds texture files into Photoshop or Gimp, be sure they get vertically flipped. The models are UV mapped and flipping the textures will make them appear correctly on the model when you eventually render in your 3D program of choice.

If you have Photoshop, you'll need some plugins to read the .dds files. Nvidia has some free texture tools to help.

Enjoy, and I wish you the success I've had.
