I'm talking about the thread that is titled "Decline in numbers... starting to turn into RAPID!!!"

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=442379&find=unread

At the time of writing it has been going on for 167 pages and it is full of complete b*llocks.

I understand why no CCP employee wants to get involved, especially with the locking of this thread. You are worried that it will be seen as censorship. But believe me, some things really need to be put down at birth.

It is harming our beautiful game, this forum is the first stop for any new players considering joining this game and they are met with that crap. It has no purpose, anything useful has long been said, it's only effect is to put new players off. End it now!

Edit: When you do lock that thread, lock this one at the same time.

If they closed all threads that someone thought was full of complete b*llocks, there'd be about 3 open threads on the entire forum. At the end of the day that's what some people want to talk about, and there's no reason they shouldn't be allowed. Better that people talk about things like that here where the intention is for CCP to actually responds with their point of view and potentially find a solution than people going off to third party sites and complaining about it there in addition to CCPs censorship of their thread which would be seen by many as confirmation.

You must be new around here, except you're not. So is this the first time you have read GD or something? ****'s par for the course.

Report the thread if you take issue with it. Opening another thread about a trollfest is essentially opening another trollfest.

No!

Civil discourse is uniquely human. After all, when is the last time a pride of lions and a herd of water buffalo negotiated SOV over a watering hole? Never. Someone either gets their ass kicked or eaten. At the end of the day someone holds SOV.

I've been reading GD for years even during breaks from the game. Plenty of rubbish posted which I've never complained about before, but this one, 167 pages, I think all that needed to be said has been said.

Censorship is one thing, but it can go the other way. I see distinct trolling in this thread which isn't being moderated by CCP or ISD and I think it is because the subject matter is so contravesial and they are unwilling to commit to actions that would be stamped as censorship by the trolls that would jump on them.

Edit: Lol - are people still going on about WIS?

All they really need to do is prune out the people launching attacks. Other than that, if it's a subject you don't like, just ignore it. That goes for WiS too.

It's a lighting rod thread, which keeps the worst busy (as you observed) and thus removes work from ISDs.

Good guess, at least, as it's full of worthless drivel anyway.

dude, whether it is closed or not, new players will not be staying for long because eve online has the wrong approach at the moment.

It basically promotes the following for new players, the way it stands, and the way new players see it.

1. Get into a big alliance at all costs.
Most players will be scammed, since scamming is an allowed tactic in the game, they will rage quit.

Yes, scamming is allowed in eve, and let's be honest, scamming will get you in trouble sooner or later in real life, that is why people love to do it safely in eve, yes, you can screw people up bad that are not used to it, but still, this is for sure among the new players, one of the biggest factors why they leave.

2. Underestimation of Carebears. Ganking and popping JFs, and whatnot is a hell of a ton of fun, but it kills the game brutally. Heck, even me as a 2003 players have to resort to frikkin scouts, watching certain people and alliances on WL, and whatnot, and even I got raped, taking many pre-cautions. So yes, go kill your carebears, those are usually the guys that spend most time in Eve, having most accounts, and paying the most cash, because they love doing that boring crap.

Do not take me wrong. It is fun popping them, but lol, they just leave, and leave, and leave, and more and more the newer generation of players do not have the willpower to continue on. A kid that turns 18 today, that uses his mom's creditcard to buy plex to get a freighter alt, and has it blown up seconds later in Jita, he won't get up to sit on the same horse again he fell off, he will be like "ah, screw this..." and move on.

3. No reward system. Personally, I hate rewards and all of that crap, but people want medals, trophies, so they can pursue hours and hours to try and show to others how much better he is. Like special shiny armor, or some dumb medal, logos, whatever, and look at CCP, we don't even have a proper killboard system. The guys with the most kills each month on the killboards are actually the most embarrassing players of eve, because all they do is fire in on some stupid POS module, and lol, even get a kill for that.

I can go on and on, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that new players are not attracted to this type of game, if you want to be blind and ignorant believing that Eve is doing great in regards of players, then go and dream on, seriously, but fact is, eve's game mechanics are just not compatible with the new generation of players, no way. I am glad I enjoyed my time when this game first started, when I was hooked to Homeworld MP, had a few years fun for sure, but this game's unique mechanics is also what will kill it.

Interesting perspective. As an older player, in RL and Eve, I find it hard to argue against your view of the younger generation of players.

Good that you've petitioned this, but now that you have, it's against the forum rules to discuss petitions on the forums.

I think they want to keep that thread open. Because otherwise the GD crowd will just keep opening 15 different threads every day on the subject.

I don't play that many games at the moment, but practically all of the ones that have some kind of multiplayer gameplay have their own doomsayers. And much like the ones on here, they declare as a matter of fact that the game is dead, period. Never mind that the majority of players are still happily plugging away in said game, because they (the complainers) aren't or no longer having fun, they're saying that it's not enjoyable for anyone.

If that thread got locked I'd hazard a guess that in 2 weeks or less, another threadnaught will pop up in it's place, declaring to all and sundry that Eve is dying due to reasons x and y, and then all the old arguments will resurface (much like when afk cloaking rears its head).

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......
