Planetary interaction visible resource limit

I've been looking everywhere for an answer but can't find it so hopefully someone can help.

While in your PI view mode there is a slider bar that allows you to adjust your minimum and maximum resource limit. If I slide the bar all the way to the right I can't see much of anything. As I slide to the left I start to see a more concentrated source of the item in white that I'm looking for. However once I start going to far to the left it starts to white out making it look like there are a lot of that resource.

My question is what is that slider actually adjusting and what am I looking for? I've watched many videos on PI and every time they slide it about 3/4 of the way to the left and say that's the spot your looking for. Ok, why is that? What information is being given to me when I have the slider 3/4 of the way to the left instead of almost all of the way to the right?

The slider is an adjustable color scale. The further you move it to the right, the higher the gradient.

Think of it this way, all the way to the left shows you how many spots have say 100 resources available in white. All the way right shows how many spots have 10000 resources in white.

Sills effect accuracy or range I think.

Shrink the bar to comfortable width (i use minimum width), then move the small bar left and right (not resizing) until you see hotspots as bright as you like.

CCP have published a series of videos that discuss the basics of PI - the first in the series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXvw9EtWPGw

The slider determines your scan resolution. The position will depend on the quality of the planet and the abundance of the resource you want to harvest - In highsec, with poor planets, you will likely use a fairly wide scan window positioned near the left of the bar. in Nullsec, with much richer planets, you will narrow the scan and usually position it toward the right side of the bar.

You don't want "all white". move the scan window to the right until you see some variation in color. Ideally you want a patch of white just big enough for your extractors!

Scan accuracy improves with the planetology and advanced planetology skills.
