Hello fellow pilots!

Just a bit over a month ago I have joined this wonderful li.. err game! Like many people I´ve heared of EVE before, but since nobody I knew played it, I never bothered trying it out. Eventually comics ( I had the great fortune to later find out, this was not really a comic ), such as these pushed me into thinking about it and having downloaded the game halfway into the This is EVE video just sealed the deal.

Here I was.. at the greatest challenge of every EVE player since the beginning of times.. The Character Creation! It´s funny how one finds something they like in the first half hour, but then try out everything else for about.. too much.. only to come back to that initial design choice.

I always wanted to be an explorer and go on expeditions, EVE gave me that chance and so I hopped into a little Magnate, yes 10 minutes into the game and I already regretted my race of choice which I then promptly fixed using some mental gymnastics about the Caldari being all about profit and opportunity and so my ship of choice would not matter!

*I´d like to take this time to note the irony of me caring so much about the RP aspect of EVE, when I couldn´t have cared less in other games, even though in EVE it plays no part in the gameplay whatsoever!*

I did a lot of research in the first week about pretty much everything EVE related and what stuck with me the most was how much people pushed others to just try things out, I wonder if NIKE is secretly a sponsor due to so many people shouting JUST DO IT at pretty much every question a newbie asks.

Unfortunate Newbie: "Would it be a smart idea to move my plex in a starter ship? Will people simply not care about such a small target?"
Bitter Vet:"JUST DO IT"
Unfortunate Newbie:"Ok"

And the Bitter Vet was right! What better way to learn than to get burned by fire! Of course some people might think this is a bit extreme, but oh well tomato tomato... tomaytou tomaato.. *this is a lot harder in writing*

Where was I? Oh right, people being afraid of just trying things out. So I took my little newbie ship and flew it right into a wormhole where it died a horrible death after getting caught by somebody patiently waiting fat a site in a Sabre. I was hooked!
Swiftly I found a Wormhole Corp, which is no easy task with a fresh character as most Wormhole Corps have an SP requirement. It was a c2 with c3-hs statics. *Sites for days, or that was what I thought* Two weeks in I realized that there was no real incentive for me to live in a Wormhole instead of simply wandering into them on a daily basis, so I did some more research on them and found out about how PI is supposed to be really profitable in Wormholes! Tried that, however it turned out that the planets we had were.. not so great.. Barren and Gas for days!
The corp was still building itself up and I was also unable to join our guys for site clearing because I wasnt able to fly anything higher than a destroyer at that point. I said my goodbyes and went off to find out what other stuff EVE has to offer. Naturally I wandered off to Missions and random PVP, but I was missing the deceptive emptiness of Wormholes more and more day in day out.

At this point I had found a friend who was also intrigued by the idea of living in a Wormhole (yes he is also about a month old) so.. you guessed it! RESEARCH TIME
We came to the conclusion that due to our RL Schedules we would not be able to commit until sometime spring next year, and apparently there was a huge update coming sometime arround.. spring next year! Citadels!

And so the preparations begin, which is where I seek help from you more experienced people! Our plan is to, come Citadel launch, we get ourself a medium sized Citadel, find a c1-low sec Wormhole with some dece.. good PI and move in. This would give us a good idea of what it´s like to

  • move in to a Wormhole, as in the whole process needed for such an undertaking
  • get used to making safe spots, scanning down all the sites on a regular basis
  • find a couple more likeminded people to join us
  • make a bit more bank
  • get used to flying as a fleet, just because we don´t have a static to higher class holes doesn´t mean we will never get higher class holes spawning

Eventually move into a higher class hole and then go from there.

Is this unreasonable in any way, shape or form?
What would be the initial setup of ships, guns, mods, ammo etc... needed for such an endeavour?
What would be the initial cost to set it all up?
Do you have any complaints and/or suggestions?

I would like to hear it all! Thank you for sticking with me so far :) and I hope you can help me out!
Have a great evening / day / night / morning

Honestly I'd skip the C1, the isk isn't really worthwhile. C2s have 2 statics and the loot is better plus you can solo them in a BC with the right fit, and C3s aren't that much harder (you can run the anomalies with T1 DPS+Logi cruiser fleet with relatively low SP).

Do you know how to use d-scan? If not learn it and get good at pointpointing things in space. Just gotta put that out there.

As for set up . . . well it's hard to give advice on that if you are waiting for citadels cause they aren't here yet! At his point it's all theorycrafting.

Well it actually does help a lot! Since he seems credible, it gives an idea what kind of budget we´ll be needing and what kind of structure to aim for :D

And yes! The game is a lot of fun if one choses to make it that way :)

edit to avoid spamming:

I guess we could start in a C2 as well, however all the info I´ve gather points to C2 Wormholes having a lot of traffic which in the long run might not be a bad thing, but we would prefer our hole nice and quiet to start out with!

Oh but it can, and it does (if you want it to).

An 'RP' aspect can add so much to your game experience in a ton of ways. Put some effort into your character, create and take part in all kinds of content and make him/her part of some epic stories. Tell those stories too. Your RP can be as simple as sticking to certain ship choices or flying against certain factions, all the way up to the full RP experience brought by roleplaying your character in almost everything you do in EVE. I've spent tons of ISK, had tons of fights, been involved in many war decs and even a large eviction or two carried out by my character purely for reasons that were important to her.

RP can lead to some fun times, good content and great stories. Pirate

I'd recommend starting off in a C2 or C3. C1s can be fine for learning the ropes (spent a long time in one myself many moons ago) though you'll struggle to make money there and constantly find yourself annoyed by hole mass restrictions. Even one step up to C2 can open up a whole new world yet not bring too many extra challenges with it.

Speaking of which, I just so happen to know of a C2 with PI to die for.

Dusette PI rental Empire is only ever a convo for comm message away ...

Man. Wh space needs more newbros like you...

Welcome! I look forward to shooting at you Evil and being shot back at!

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."
