Just some game auto kick, EVE has no such code, literally just an approval that the action is permissible here.

CCP can *easily* write code to temp ban on their definition of griefing

They haven't therefore it's really not a big deal

Why didn't you simply face him in your mission?
Have your corp mates keep an eye out in case he tried to bring friends?
Face him in your Mach so that he wouldn't be able to specifically tank for your damage type?
I"m sorry, but you weren't griefed, you were simply too timid to face him.


Of course I didn't want to face him in the Mach or Nightmare.

He would most likely stay cloaked in a force recon, or a Curse or something, wait for me to have full room aggro (because I speed and range tank my Mach, and it has basically no tank, so if I stop moving I am ******.), then web and scramble me and wait for the rats to do the rest while orbiting me really fast and close so I can't track him.

Not only would I lose a 1.6 bil Mach, but I would lose a 1.6 bil Mach that is not even mine.

When I take those things to level 4 missions, I do that because there is NO way of losing them to NPCs, I have elite certificates in every weapon system and tank system in the game, excluding capital stuff, but I can't do that when a player is actively hunting me.

I thought about PVP fitting the mach, but that would make it crap for the mission.

Buffer tank + gank: He'd just wait for rats to chew on it before attacking.
Supertank: he'd nos me or neut me in a Curse for sure.
full gank: He'd just let the rats do the work while webbing and scrambling me.
Wait for him with my cloaked corp mates: Who knows how ******* long it would take, and I don't have time for this because it's not fun.

So I decided to just quit for about 2 weeks and he left me alone.

Well, he probably left me alone also because my corp declared war on itself with about 5 alt corps, so war deccing us would cost a lot more.


I realize you think your options were limited, but if you think clearly about it for a moment they were not.

First: You're old enough to buy your own Mach.

Aside from that:

Change your fit to something PVP appropriate, with an emphasis on webs and a point.
Do lower level missions to draw him out without putting yourself at risk from the rats.
Wait at your desired range by the warp in beacon in your mission. The beacon will decloak him when he follows you through the acceleration gate.
Have a corp mate (if you don't have a second account) wait cloaked at the accceleration gate to tell you what he is in. Then decide whether to engage or not.
Alternatively: Fit a buffer tank and ask your corp mates to stay within a jump of your system. I'm sure they would have left their ratting or missions long enough to jump to you (via the missions acceleration gate) when you called for help. At that point YOU simply have to hold HIM.

You let one guy run rough shod over you, but you had plenty of options. The one's listed above just scratch the surface.

This was not griefing. This was you not using your brains and skills to face the situation.

So it's NOT okay for someone to call you out for breaking the "keep profanity to a minimum in local" part of EVE's rules (because we have kids that play), but it IS okay to scream "GRIEFER" because someone attempted to engage you in combat.

Okay, I'm going to make this as clear and unambiguous as I can. If you don't understand it, Kobol, that's your probem.

Intentionally killing someone with the sole intent that he must log off to get away from you -- whether you do it once or a dozen tmes or a hundred times-- is griefing. The Terms of Service are very specific: a player may not interfere with another person's enjoyment of the game.

Being forced to stop playing to escape relentless harassment certainly qualifies as 'interference'.

That's basically what I had to do.

If I wasn't such a big Eve fan, I would have just quit.

Having my gameplay interfered with so badly is not fun at all.

I swear, sometimes I think that this game will grief itself off the gaming market.

I, the mighty Knight Dinahk, remember well the "RusCat"/"RusKick" dual box debacle.

Rus, being an intellectual giant, told me to commit suicide - in real life, after he found that he had to call in his battlecruiser to keep me from collecting his T2-armed Punisher as a killmail with my then week old character.

He had been griefing new players in an Amarr starter system for the entire week I had been in game.

CCP took care of the issue, by making him move to Gallente starter space.

And though CCP did nothing to Rus, and that asshat has a killmail, I have the memory of his delicious tears in local. "No! No! Stop moving so fast! Come Closer! Come closer! My pulse turrets no fire far! NOO!!! NO!!!! COME HERE!! NO!!!! *dock*"
