When I install the client using DoD I regret it, because ...

Assume a clean, fresh account.

First I have to wait ages for anything to happen.
I sit in front of a black screen or a loading bar for two minutes or so.

Then the intro video starts, but that's not accurate.
It's blocky, full of errors and reminds me of the early 90s.
It stalls, stops, looks horrible.

I abort it.

Then I wait again, for several minutes, until the race selection screen comes up.
Eventually I get to pick one, after more waiting.

Then, eventually, I get to the character creation stage in which I have to wait even longer.

I have to wait for so many things that have to be loaded before something happens ...
... thqat I want to throw it all away and call it a ****** game for behaving like that.

No, the solution is not to download everything.
It should not be like this!

I have tried it several times and every single time it was exactly the same.

I don't know why no one else ever complained about this ...
... but I can't imagine it's just me.

For a new player, seriously, everything until the actual start of the game should be loaded as fast as possible,
so why in Bobs name do things like the intro, race selection, subrace selection and character creation take so long?

Why is this not in the tiny client already?

It makes no sense to me.

In sum I spend a good ten to fifteen minutes just waiting, staring at nothing.

Thank you for your attention, I hope it helps ...

generation fast...

tiny client = launcher binaries only

then you get either a almost playable client but it will "stream" (horrible word) the game
or you go check the "download all files" in launcher and wait for 13GB, then you get a fully playable client, albeit corruption because old launcher.

why are not the resources for char creation and video downloaded as "mandatory" before allowing play button is an excellent question and I second this

most current games "online" have a mandatory download part where client is not playable at all, then a "may work but don't complain" part.

the current way eve client handle this things is not ok. you add that to the "download" issue lots of people are having from ccp CDN (which btw is amazon, not ccp...) you get an horrible first experience and all that just before Christmas

maybe the new beta launcher manage a fresh install better, I didn't try it from scratch yet, did someone? (are you willing to try?)

I'm not from "Generation Fast", but it's absolutely irrational to have people wait when they want to play the game.
I'm glad you agree with me. I actually thought this thread will get ignored completely.

And no, I'm not willing to try ... because, quite frankly speaking ...
... it's a beta launcher ... and it's CCP ... and the idea is outright scary.

I did my fair share of waiting already. :p

nah I lurk here a lot, too much, I just ignore post where I see whining about download speed and human stupidity. So I was not going to let pass a almost good technical debate.

I have no idea how much but to get all players body, texture clothes, and station interior for the race I'm pretty sure you would need a few gigs, 1 or 2 at the least. but pretty sure not much less. I think the black screen is a wrong choice, and a greyed out play button would at least let the player know it's a game with data, not clash of clan.

but give the beta launcher a try, it is scary at first, fiddling with your settings folders and all, but quite nice (and yes buggy as hell when they fail an update which almost never ... happens :D :)

I'll try it if I ever reinstall windows on this machine ... :)

It shouldn't be that hard to do right. It's all trickery, tbh.
What's needed is the intro movie, the racial selection screen,
the racial character selection screen and then the character creation.

Most of that can and should be already on the client before it even starts for the first time.

While the player is watching the movie and doing his clicks, other things can be downloaded in the background.
There is absolutely no need to stall the client in any way or form and the *minimal* amount of time a new
player takes until his character is created is absolutely predictable ... at least for CCP, because they have the actual data.

Sometimes ... rarely ... but this time definitely ...
... I'd love to just knock on their door and ask them why they **** so obvious things up so horribly ..............
