I cannot update wine due to graphical glitches when using 1.7-1.8 I can't resolve (got an older nvidia card in my lappy) please fix with 1.6 please!!!

Whats the GPU? Might need bumblebee.

VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT216GLM [Quadro FX 880M] (rev a2)

I don't know that GPU but is it an optimus card? Are you using primusrun or optirun to launch eve??

Hi MAn,

No cant find any google on my card and bumblebee so guess it isnt

Running eve with:
R600_DEBUG=hyperz taskset -c 4-5 /home/mydir/.PlayOnLinux/wine/linux-x86/1.7.55-d3dadapter/bin/wine /home/mydir/.wine/drive_c/Prog*/CCP/EVE/bin/exefile.exe \/triPlatform=dx9

Did eve 100% use your GPU before? I'm pretty certain that as it's a mobile GPU you'd need to use bumblebee to use the card. I could be wrong though.

What info do you get if you run
glxgears -info

PS.

Just the top bit, not the whole big block o'code!

MAn

GL_RENDERER = Quadro FX 880M/PCIe/SSE2
GL_VERSION = 3.3.0 NVIDIA 340.96
GL_VENDOR = NVIDIA Corporation

It's always worked fine in wine1.6 think it's time I upgraded ;)

Thanks

I installed wine 1.8rc3 using the instructions here http://linuxdaddy.com/blog/install-wine-on-ubuntu/ and it seems to work so far here. I'm playing since 10 minutes now and docked/undocked... nothing terrible happened until now Big smile
Thanks Alexander Kaan for hinting to that.

I just used this mini tutorial, did a remove of wine first, it shows you how on the 4th line of script. just removed "wine" without the cersion, then installed as instructed.

There is a REASON why it is marked unstable: meaning under VERY FIRST STAGE of development!

Well then you're in luck, this ones under the 3rd stage of development (I.E. rc3) and running stable for many of us!

I haven't the luxury of upgrading Wine to 1.8 repos as it may break other dependant programs that are used on wine 1.6.2.

Oh well, have to play a skirmish roles on my 4GB and struggling Win 7 laptop, till CCP tweak some stuff for the rest of the Linux crowd.

Works fine for me with wine-32bit-1.7.46-454.1.x86_64 under openSuSE 13.2 on a dell M4800 with an Nvidia Card.
So far I only tested windowed mode with low details, but that is what I normally use anyways.

Hi,

Can you do an lspci | grep VGA and post your card version please?

Work fine with my current setup without touching anything.

Wine 1.7.55-nine

glxinfo:
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD TAHITI (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0)
OpenGL core profile version string: 4.1 (Core Profile) Mesa 11.2.0-devel (git-9e5e702)
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 4.10

glxgears:
GL_RENDERER = Gallium 0.4 on AMD TAHITI (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0)
GL_VERSION = 3.0 Mesa 11.2.0-devel (git-9e5e702)
GL_VENDOR = X.Org

Note for Statfar Novi : R600_DEBUG=hyperz is not required. It was required a long time ago only to enable hyperz on Radeons card with open sources drivers in the old bugged time.

Tried to log in with a normal patch and all I saw was that spinning thing in the bottom left. Did a full download patch and didn't have a problem after that. The download did take most of the evening, however.

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

This worked for me, but I had to change the client from using DirectX 11 to DirectX 9. Now everything is back to normal.

Confirmed solution mentioned above.
Updated Ubuntu with the WINE ppa and latest 1.7.55
The new Wine downloads and installs Mono and Gecko.
My command line script to run the EVE evefile.exe now fails for some odd reason I haven't investigated.

Happily, the EVE Launcher is no longer buggy and you can launch Wine from there reliably: this was very haphazard on previous versions.

And Captain's Quarters.... now displays your character! .... and then hangs up completely.

Spoke too soon. There doesn't seem to be any way of getting out of Captain's Quarters once you crash in it.

Clearing your game cache in the Launcher causes the game to fail shortly after opening. The repair tool results in the following error in a log file:

requests.exceptions.SSLError: [Errno 1] _ssl.c:504: error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed

At this point, I'm looking at a complete reinstall to hope that it magically fixes something.

I'll add my voice to the chorus. Pick you're poison about how you want to do this. But upgrading the version of WINE you use seems to be the solution to this issue. Personally used PlayOnLinux this time, with the help of WINE version 1.7.46 (not the latest, but it WAS the current default), and...problem solved.
