It is as beneficial as rust/dust/kill-marks. Some think it is nice and other think it is a complete waste of time and resources, so for me to prove a necessity - some would like to be able to relive kills/deaths just because it could be of interest.

Long time benefits? More players will be able to create videos, the same way as CCP does, of actual events from within the game. That could be a lot of free advertising which could bring in more players. Also could be fun just in the form of bloopers.


Now to the logistic part of the idea which has been used as a counter argument as to it would take resources from various development teams (speculations ensue).

Data - The data needed for this feature is the exact same data as the client needs to display what is going on. Therefore data wise, this equals to plugging in a one extra redundant client on the field and just dump it somewhere for post script processing (i.e. what data relates to what kill, for what duration etc.), game-wise impact is minuscule.

The post processor is the EVE client, there might be some complications in creating a shell of it that allows you to control the camera in space and time (i.e. pause, rewind, fast forward etc.).
