Changing the name of ISIS

CCP if you have done this because you feel Ship Tree is more intuitive then by all means change it but if you are doing this to avoid a shared name with another group dont let their actions dictate what names you can and cant use

Just call them ISIL or Daesh. Especially the second one, they apparently don't like it.

Or we could just rename every instance of ISIS, which is silly and makes us look like cowards. Maybe you should write a letter next to the Egyptian government and tell them there's this old Egyptian goddess called Isis and you don't like that. P

I agree, it is stupid and weak to change the name. ISIS was a really good name (Interbus ship identification system). Also Isis is the name of an Egyptian goddess. Just because some fanatics have decided to try and steal the name doesn't mean we should simply let them have it. Screw them.

I would like to point out that ISIS is not what that group calls itself. ISIS is an abbreviation of the name used by western nations because we don't speak or write in Arabic.

But I understand CCP's reasoning for wanting to change the name. Unfortunate it is. But not at all surprising.

It's not unfortunate, it's outright daft. As mentioned above, Isis is an Egyptian goddess who was worshipped as the ideal mother and wife as well as the patroness of nature and magic and was known as protector of the dead and goddess of children. All things that characterize what the Interbus Ship Identification System is about.

Other more influential and important entities like the TU Berlin or John Hopkins University do not rename their references to this name. CCP doing it is not reasonable or explicable.

Thing is - CCP is changing it, but they have not (as far as I know) said why.

The sad thing - probably at the time Daesh rose up, people starting asking CCP to change the ISIS name. I always thought it was stupid for people to want it to change. Our spaceship spreadsheet with pictures is in no way related to a bunch of over zealous religious egg heads, who are the largest group of cowards I have ever know in all of life (maybe second - behind egg shell walking government leaders and other management people all caring about how they don't want to hurt any ones feelings, and so the problems of the world just keep getting worse)

So, why is it being changed? CCP knows and they have yet to tell us.
If it is because of the egg head terrorist - than shame on CCP for caving in.
If it is because CCP has some long term plans for the "Ship Tree" and felt that a new name would be needed to expand, than that is fine.

If CCP needs to change the name of things, let's start with the name of the game.

EVE Online

Why is this offensive? EVE is the name of the first woman created by a fictitious sky fairy. She was created to do one thing, and one thing only. Be the downfall of humans as we know it. Humanity was going fine until the broad got manipulated by a snake. Damn, it wasn't even a chocolate cupcake, talk about some lacking self-discipline.

There is absolutely no reason CCP should change the name of ISIS. ISIS is not offensive in the slightest. Its very similar to EVE as well, both are fictitious entities created by a psuedo-deity, or in NATO's case, pseudo-intellectual deity.

Grow up you bleeding heart betas and turn off Fox News.
