can always use a damage control instead of the mining upgrade if u prefer more tank.

warp to belt, start mining .. orbit the roid and use drones to pew pew any rats coming your way.

5% less yield, but this one has more tank and cap stable with the afterburner running. Use a drone if you want to salvage.

--> Unless you are gas mining you really want to get a mining barge as soon as you can. Do that before you try to maximize modules. The procurer will give you a lot of safety when you are first starting.

A favorite Venture fit of mine involves a MWD, 2 t2 ion blasters, and a medium shield extender. Depending on the rigs you throw on it other fun things like a small ASB or a web/point/scram are possible as well.

If blasters aren't your thing AC Ventures are very popular (no cap!) and pulse laser Ventures have their adherents as well.

For general mining work the two fits listed (which have mining lasers) are both suitable, though they are slightly tricky to fit depending on your skills IIRC.
In general you will want to begin with your mining lasers, they're the reason the ship's there after all...
An afterburner and the largest shield extender you can fit are next on the list. IIRC a medium extender, even the best fitting version, can push you over with early skills, if so you might want to fit a Power Diagnostic System in your lowslot - giving you the extra PG required and incidentally some other nice boosts. Otherwise you will go for a mining laser upgrade and you're pretty much in one of the two fits - it's your choice as to which you prefer.
