This looks like an old issue, but I can't seem to find an official solution searching the forums. I am aware that rebooting my machine would resolve this issue, but it seems to be a temporary solution, as this is not the first time this has occurred in the last day or so.

When starting the launcher I get an error:
"Unable to update EVE Client: The EVE Launcher cannot update a director from which processes are running. Please close the following process: eve.exe"

I've checked Task Manager for eve.exe, which isn't labelled as running. The CCP Eve Bootstrapper(32bit) process is present in the list of processes, and when I "right click -> open file location" it opens to my "...\CCP\EVE" folder and highlights the eve.exe file.

Taking that information, I attempted to kill the eve bootstrapper process. There was no indication that "End Task" did anything. I've created a dump file for the stuck process which I can provide to Development if necessary. I took a look inside, and it shows two instances of eve.exe loaded.

The next step I took was to look at the "Details" tab of the Taskmgr, which did show eve.exe is running. I attempted to kill it using "End Task" which resulted in an "Unable to terminate process. The operation could not be completed. Access is denied." error. I opened Taskmgr as administrator and encountered the same error.

Next I tried to kill the process using taskkill /f in an elevated command prompt. "taskkill /f /im eve.exe" yielded the following error message:

"ERROR: The process with PID 32528 (child process of PID 5276) could not be terminated.
Reason: There is no running instance of the task."

Odd... Task manager clearly states that eve.exe is running in the Details tab, and the launcher detects that it's running.

Anybody have any ideas?

meh seems like an admin problem

open a command line as administrator

type without the quotes

taskkill -F -IM EXEFILE.EXE
taskkill -F -IM EVE.EXE
taskkill -F -IM launcher.EXE

(or simply reboot your PV)

next run the launcher, not "EVE.EXE", launcher.exe in the subfolder called "launcher", try running is as admin too

if this is not working, then re reboot/kill

and try the beta launcher, this worked for some ppl here

I appreciate the reply.
The only thing you listed that I haven't already tried was running the launcher as admin.
I gave that an attempt, same issue.

Downloading the beta launcher now.

Awesome. The beta launcher resolved that issue. Now I just need to get it to open clients in windowed mode instead of fullscreen. lol

*EDIT:* And Fixed.
