Shield booster amp vs shield extender?

I'm trying to decide which would be better for running combat sigs:

Med shield extender yields EHP of 35K, 254 EHP/sec, sig 157

Shield boost amp yields EHP of 28K, 311 EHP/sec, sig 150

A shield boost amp looks better, but I'm wondering if there's something I'm overlooking.

... shield boost amps give a % bonus to the amout of shield given through ACTIVE tanking....

... shield extenders give a fixed shield ehp increase...

If incoming dps beats the amount of shield you can repair having more shield wont help...

Usually not worth mixing tank. Either go for full active with shield boost amp, or go extenders and no booster for passive.

It will take just over 2 minutes of shield boosting in order for the shield boost amp to provide greater value than the additional EHP of the shield extender. This is excluding the factor of the extra 7 sig. radius.

If the purpose is PvE, and you expect the encounter to last beyond 2 minutes, amp.

I wouldn't fit a medium shield extender on a cruiser which is kinda what I am assuming based on the sig radius. If you can throw a large on there it might be worth it to protect from alpha, but still kinda a niche fit. the shield boost amp is nice but I don't know if it boosts your numbers enough. How do they look with a specific resist amp or another hardener? Seems better to me to just throw a specific hardener on than a boost amp a lot of the time. Or maybe consider fitting ewar or a projection mod? no point in over tanking and completing sites faster => more isk!

The posters above have covered it pretty well.
If you're doing those combat sigs in a Tengu, You want your specific resists at or very near 90%.
Then the amp will really shine.
Amp all the way.
