The Terminus Stream - ever explained?

For those who don't know/remember, this was an odd anomaly that was often (not constantly) present in the Vuorrassi system.

It was a warpable beacon on the overview. The above link contains virtually all of the information on the subject I'm aware of.

I personally visited it on multiple occasions and it had different effects. When it first appeared, it would start damaging ships at 20-25km distance; the damage would increase exponentially as the anomaly was approached. At 2.5km, it would instantly destroy any ship no matter the health - another investigator (I have forgotten the name) came while I was asking about the anomaly. He brought a Scorpion Navy Issue and a logistics ship - he was at 75% shield when the ship exploded.

As noted on evetravel, after the Crucible release the site was not (as far as I know) ever seen again. At the time there were some people claiming it was a bug and was only supposed to spawn as scenery in C4 wormhole sites - as far as I know this is BS.

I don't know if anyone figured out the purpose or significance of this "landmark", but I still remember it from time to time and wonder. If so, I would like to know - I don't post so much these days but I am still a lore and universe nerd at heart.
