Is there a storyline involving the events that led up to the discovery of the gate that eventually collapsed?

The history surrounding the exodus from Earth and finding the gate must be extraordinary to say the least.

In-universe, the EVE gate story is more legend than history at this point. The Sisters of Eve believe it leads to Heaven, many academics believe it to be the origin of humanity in the New Eden cluster, but for most people it's just another anomaly that generates crazy theories. The actual history has been completely lost as far as we know - the only remaining groups that could conceivably have records would be the Sleepers and Drifters, and it's far from certain that even their origins go back that far.

The information players have is scarce and sometimes contradictory.

The wormhole to New Eden was discovered in the Tau Ceti system. The EVE Gate was constructed to stabilize the wormhole and ease passage. There are contradictory stories as to its end - one of the original game manuals stated that the wormhole collapsed but the stargate functioned for a further 70 years before the disaster; the official New Eden Timeline simply states that the gate collapsed 72 years after it was first traversed, and the EVE Origins trailer states that it was open for a century and never mentions or shows a gate constructed around the wormhole.

Other than what is in the timeline linked above, we know absolutely nothing about the time before the wormhole collapsed.
