New FX on Singularity

Greetings Capsuleers,

We have recently updated our test server Singularity with the revamped visual effects for the upcoming release. Here is the list of effects that have been updated:

• Cyno Beacon (e.g. Cynosural Field Generator)
• ECCM
• ECM Burst
• Sensor Booster
• Stasis Webifier
• Survey Scanner
• Tracking Computer
• Jump Portal
• Jump Portal Black Op’s
• Smartbombs (All four types – EMP, Graviton, Photon & Plasma)
• Probe warp FX
• Warp FX when a capsuleer views another ship jumping through a Stargate & Wormhole.

We’d like your help as we’re interested in your feedback!

For example we’d like to know if you think a certain FX is too large or small or if you feel that an effect doesn’t have the same visual ‘impact’ as it once did.

It goes without saying that if you find something that you looks like a bug please send us a bug report via the F12 in-game menu or via the website

The new ECM Burst looks more like a sustained effect than a, you know, "burst". In my honest opinion it should look a lot more like the EMP smartbomb does. Right now it resembles ECCM way too much, I activated it while the ECCM was still flashing red and couldn't notice the effect at all.

Regarding ranges, can you scale the effects based on their range, so that a bonused Survey Scanner has a larger visual effect, or an officer smartbomb actually extends out to it's correct range? Or is that too far out of your scope?

PS: just noticed that smarties actually project their FX far farther than the nominal range, at least for low meta ones (:cough: seed faction ones on SiSi :cough:), so I guess the range is not touchable. In that case I'd suggest you scale the Survey Scanner, ECCM and ECM burst up to more realistic ranges.

From what I've seen the smartbomb effect, while gorgeous, is a gigantic step down in "oomph". If there's a way for you to add some more blast on there I think it would really benefit from it.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, the artist behind the FX and myself are actively discussing the points you've all made and are looking at ways we can take your feedback on board with them.

I'll take a look at creating some gifs of the new FX for those that are unable to get on to try them :)

I realize this may be out of scope, but, One Day I'd like to see another pass made on the gate jump warp tunnel effect, which is very cool the first couple of times, but grows tiresome with repetition.

The main problem is the forced camera move from third to first person view, would like to stay in third person, with no camera takeover... similar to the warp tunnel effect.

Alternately, if the session change time efficiency brought by BiaB permit, please consider removing the gate jump effect and simply fade to black from the last frame on jump, and fade into the next loaded system.

Thanks TriLambda, for your work polishing EVE & keeping it fresh, in so many other areas :)

Thank you for updating these visuals, incredible job.

Is it possible to make the "covert cyno" more ~covert~, it's kinda bright. Looks beautiful however.

I haven't had a chance to get on Sisi yet to look, but the most important thing for this:

* Warp FX when a capsuleer views another ship jumping through a Stargate & Wormhole.

is that the effect be both obvious and noticeable when a player is looking at a gate/wormhole both at 10km and at 200km. The first iteration of the last change made to this effect two years ago was too subtle to be easily noticeable (particularly at long range), so please make sure that isn't the case this time. Thanks!

aka Jester, who apparently was once Deemed Worthy To Wield The Banhammer to good effect.

any chance to make the scramble effect bluish? Disruption would stay green and both would align with the icon colors.

new effects like web, eccm or TD have in their animation a ~2s segment were they are completely faded out and invisible. I would like to have this much shorter so that you can see the effect all the time.

web is maybe a little too subtle for its power but i overall like the new effects (ECCM is cool). Jump effect is my favorite.


hoping for those explosions we saw in the fanfest session ;)


edit: game mechanics wise ECM burst should look more like a smartbomb pulse and less like the always-on ECCM effect.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

It would be swell if we could have a startup and fadeout animation with these effects, instead of a single animation for a single cycle; Making looping cycles look proper.

Try a full rack, they are kinda meh individually, but they stack much better than at present. It actually works nicely to show if a ship is a dedicated disco platform or just has a couple utility highs dedicated to ant-bomb duty.

• The Barghest model needs to be reduced by 50% in size (to roughly 1000m) and given 2 engines for every 6-engine cluster (so instead of having 24 small and 4 medium engines it would have 8 large and 4 medium engines). The new exhaust effect is totally lost on the smaller engines because you cannot zoom in close enough to really see it (except at warp where it looks like you have 8 large engines). The Waschi Uprising Mordu SKINs are appreciated, but what I really want is my black Barghest back...

• I really like the 1st person HUD. Can't really think of anything to change other than perhaps having the option to adjust the brightness level. Gate and warp travel is seriously messed up when you have camera shake enabled (it sometimes locks on a planet and you have HUD elements randomly jumping all over the place). Any chance of getting a fixed 3rd person camera view behind the ship?

• Noticing a lot of blockiness/pixelation in the background nebulas (whether in 1st person or not; this is regardless of graphics settings).

• I like the new effects for missile guidance (and I assume tracking) computers and sensor boosters. There doesn't seem to be an effect present for omnidirectional tracking computers, though. The shield effects for adaptive invulnerability fields appear to be missing.

• New smartbomb effects are pretty slick. They seem to really extend far out (well past range); not sure if this was intentional?

Glad you like the new smartbomb FX and I think you're right with the scale of the FX, I think we'll look into tweaking the scale so that it matches the radius of the module a little bit more accurately.

For those that have not seen this yet, but I have attached a link in the original post that should take you over to Imgur to see gifs of the new fx, as always the quality of these is not as good as it is in client so if you get a chance please do check these out in game.

ECM burst and survey scanner should be swapped about.

The present survey scanner has a very burst effect. While the present ECM burst looks like probing energies.

Maybe it is an idea to let the tracking computer and sensor booster indicate which script is loaded by the effect? The current tracking computer effect reminds me (at the moment) of a range script since it 'pushes' out.

I think meaningful gameplay and even more exciting PVP can be attained by implementing this.

I like all the new effects so far, keep it up :)
